Storming the Ocean

Very Cool (Dixie Union - Taking It Easy by Danzig) was scratched, the track was fast. Stormy Ocean (Stormy Atlantic - Our Royal Dancer by Roy) took all the money, early and late. Nicetoseey'again (Saint Liam - O K to Dance by With Approval) was 17-1. I kind of liked the look of first-timer W. W. 's Lady's Man (Wild and Wicked - Ladyote by Capote). Grandstander (Grand Slam - I'm in Celebration by Copelan) was a little skittish in the paddock. Nicetoseey'again had some pep in the post parade, but began to get overwrought as post time approached. Tangled Passion (Petionville - Untangled by Unbridled) was off on top, with Grandstander in pursuit. Favorite Stormy Ocean watched these in third. Nicetoseey'again was at the back of the leading pack early, but began to go backwards. Up front, Tangled Passion began to fade, as Stormy Ocean made his move. Grandstander hung on for a bit, but Stormy Ocean soon surged ahead to win by 3 1/2 lengths. In Just We Trust (Forest Danger - Trust Fund by Conquistador Cielo) was going well late to take second. Nicetoseey'again ended up 8th. I was a little surprised no one claimed Stormy Ocean. I guess $75,000 was a little too much. Watch the Replay.

Cantpasshim

Reprise (Awesome Again - Curriculum by Danzig) was scratched. Screaming Destiny (Street Cry (IRE) - Valenza by Chief's Crown) was favored, but also taking money were Golden Itiz (Tiznow - Golden Tiy by Dixieland Band) and Canthavehim (Graeme Hall - It's a Trip by Trippi). Colonel Mustard (Rock Hard Ten - Wave On by Caveat) was 10-1. Canthavehim looked good in the walking ring. Golden Itiz was looking lively, especially as they hit the track. Colonel Mustard, who looks like his papa, appeared to be trying to bite the pony. Screaming Destiny, making his second start, looked like he knew what was up. The Full Lavino (Military - Sherzarcat by Storm Cat) was left at the start, Canthavehim went to the front. Colonel Mustard had only slow-starting The Full Lavino beat. Canthavehim continued to lead. Screaming Destiny tried to make a run at him, but the outcome was never really in doubt. Colonel Mustard continued going backwards, and was eased in the stretch. Maybe, he wasn't quite ready to debut. Golden Itiz, who was making his first start, might be one to watch, he held third despite racing a bit greenly. Watch the Replay.

Joyful Friend (gelding; Kitten's Joy - Somethingtreasured by Charismatic) rallied nicely in the slop to take race 5 at Delta Downs, a 7 furlong Maiden Claiming race. The drop to Maiden Claiming probably helped, as did the increase in distance. Watch the Replay.

Electric Feel (filly; Afleet Alex - Cape North by Capote) bobbled, took some bad steps and unseated her rider. She was euthanized after the race. So sorry for Electric Feel, we barely got to know her. My condolences to all of her connections. Jockey Tony Maragh appeared to be ok, and rode later in the card.

Ironically today is the birthday of one of Afleet Alex's first colts from My Sweet Country. He was born on the 12th! I feel badly for Electric Feel and the owners. I'm sure Afleet Alex fans feel badly today to lose this beautiful racehorse, I am one. Go Electric Feel! wherever you are.

I watched the race and was saddened to hear that one of A Alex's foals was euthanized. When i saw Electric Feel acting up in the gate and rearing up i thought the stewards would have atleast tkaen her out for a look see.  I think she was hurt before the race started.
