Absinthe Minded is Fleeter than Angels

It was snowing at Oaklawn Park and the track was sloppy, but there were no scratches. Afleet of Angels (Afleet Alex - Come On Bid by Spectacular Bid) and Absinthe Minded (Quiet American - Rockford Peach by Great Above) took all the attention from the bettors. By n' by Lord (Saint Liam - Gone Bye Bye by Smart Strike) was 10-1. Afleet of Angels looked good in the paddock. Banducci (Rossini - Piper Piper by Spectacular Bid) was a big longshot, but looked ready for action. Absinthe Minded seemed undisturbed by the weather. It was a fairly even start. Baby It's Mine (Fusaichi Pegasus - Trackofthecat by Forest Wildcat) went to the lead, pursued by Banducci and By n' by Lord. Afleet of Angels and Absinthe Minded were sitting about mid-back. Absinthe Minded made the first move. She came rolling 4-wide and got to the front. Afleet of Angels was now in gear and she moved into second, but she couldn't catch Absinthe Minded. By n' by Lord ended up 8th, but hopefully she'll last longer next time. Watch the Replay.

Cindy's Joy (filly; Kitten's Joy - Cindy Jean by Rubiano) finished a closing 3rd in her Maiden Claiming race at Gulfstream, which was taken off the turf. She really started running late and should improve off this effort. Watch the Replay.

I Am Indy (colt; Saint Liam - Teenage Temper by A. P. Indy) was a late scratch in his Maiden Special Weight race at Turfway because of an injury in the paddock. I did not see what happened. Did anyone else? They did show him in his stall after the scratch was announced. The winner was heavy favorite Starred (Leroidesanimaux (BRZ) - Five Gold Stars by Mining). Running on late was Pointman Talkin (Point Given - Chalk Talk by Petionville), who took second. He was pretty green out there. It was only his second start, so he may still improve.
