Sillium Delivers a Winning Debut

There were no scratches, and the track was fast. The entry of Wingo (Fusaichi Pegasus - Butterfly Blue (IRE) by Sadler's Wells) and Trialsntribulation (Medaglia d'Oro - Quite Amazing by Bear Hunt) was the even-money choice. But, Sillium (Saint Liam - Silla by Gone West) was respected at 3-1. Both halves of the entry made good impressions in the paddock, and Wingo was feisty as they headed to the track. Severe Weather (February Storm - Tacky Town by Tactical Advantage) had some pep as well. Sillium was pretty calm in the paddock, but he showed more interest once on the track. Sillium was off slowly, trailing the rest of the field by 5 lengths. In front it was Flashy Street (Bold n' Flashy - Elm Street by Olympio), pursued by Trialsntribulation. The third-place horse, Mega Mon (Maria's Mon - Megan's Leprechaun by Green Dancer) was a good 5 lengths behind the top pair. Farther back in the pack, I could see someone picking off horses on the rail, it was Sillium. After 6 furlongs, Trialsntribulation put his head in front, but plenty of horses still had chances. Mega Mon made a bid, but couldn't sustain it, and Severe Weather closed good ground late. But, moving best of all was Sillium, who went by everyone for a nice win. Watch the Replay.

Kusch gets the Blessing

Classic Harmony (Songandaprayer - Haley's Classic by Sky Classic) was a scratch. He'll run instead in a race restricted to 3-year olds on March 5 at Turfway (see I Am Indy's race below). Bernabee (Bernstein - Jove's Aubee by St. Jovite) was favored. Bless Me Father (Saint Liam - Mrs. Greeley by Mr. Greeley) received some attention at 4-1. Great Catch (Albert the Great - Buckeye Belle by Lyphard's Wish (FR)) outbroke the field and established the early lead. But, Bernabee, Benny Hall (Paynes Bay - Church Street by Holy Bull), and Bless Me Father reeled him in. Bernabee moved to the lead as they entered the stretch, while Great Catch began to fade. Coming from off-the-pace was Kusch (Lemon Drop Kid - La Pascua (SWI) by Caerleon), who got through inside Bernabee to get the win. Bless Me Father lacked some late punch, but took third in a decent debut. Watch the Replay.

I'm too impatient for today's article to come out so I'm making a comment here about the Gotham tomorrow Saturday March 5th.

I just want to say to the handicappers: Are you in for a surprise with your 20-1 odds on Afleet Again. --He likes longer races but come on 20-1?!! Have you forgotten his Dad Afleet Alex fell and won a race, where do you think that came from? I hope Sunday morning all the handicappers scratch their heads in amazement because Afleet Alex is "here again". Go Cash Is King Stable
