Peace Be Upon You

The turf was firm, and only the AEs were scratched. Beautiful Song (Unbridled's Song - She's a Beauty by Storm Cat) was favored, Salaam Alaykum (Saint Liam - Our Legacy by Kingmambo) was 8-1, Seeking the Ghost (Ghostzapper - Questress by Seeking the Gold) was 8-1, Won Hot Kitty (Kitten's Joy - Silver Captive by Red Ransom) was 3-1, and Wicked Charm (Ghostzapper - Belva by Theatrical (IRE)) was 26-1. Won Hot Kitty made a good first impression, as she prepared for her debut. Beautiful Song is simply beautiful. Sharp as a Whip (Successful Appeal - Dynasharp by Dynaformer) got a strong warm-up. Salaam Alaykum looked good on the track. There was a delay, as Toxic Asset (Tapit - Pense by Stormin Fever) got a new jockey. The other jockeys hopped off. Toxic Asset was a handful when she returned with her new rider. Most of the fillies stayed calm during the delay, but Perfect Shirl (Perfect Soul (IRE) - Lady Shirl by That's a Nice) seemed a bit aggravated. Won Hot Kitty was a little reluctant to load, and Perfect Shirl acted up in the gate. At the break, Seeking the Ghost went to the lead, pressed by Salaam Alaykum. Won Hot Kitty secured a rail spot in fourth. Wicked Charm was at the back after breaking slowly. Seeking the Ghost and Salaam Alaykum battled for 6 furlongs, but then Salaam Alaykum pulled away for an easy win. Seeking the Ghost tired to 10th. Won Hot Kitty weakened a bit and finished 5th. Wicked Charm passed a bunch after her miserable start, finishing 6th. Salaam Alaykum is a traditional Arabic greeting that means, "Peace Be Upon You." A nice sentiment for a fast filly. By the way, has anyone else noticed how the Saint Liams are really starting to take to the turf? Watch the Replay.

Music Takes the Battle

Despite my skepticism, Quechee (Afleet Alex - Tarika by Cozzene) did draw into his Maiden Special Weight on the turf at Tampa Bay Downs. I did catch the race, but didn't see any of the prelims. Battle Music (Bernstein - Free Fantasy by Wild Again) went right to the lead, pressed by Financially Secure (Grand Reward - Dixie Quest by Coronado's Quest) and Robbie's Express (Express Tour - Fast Delighter by Fastness (IRE)). Quechee was forced wide on account of his outside post, but he wasn't far off the pace. Battle Music continued to lead into the stretch. Ryvit (Tapit - Ryvnine by Broad Brush) made a move, but Battle Music kept his head in front for the win. Quechee didn't gain ground late, but he didn't lose either, finishing a decent 4th. Watch the Replay.

Other March 7 Results

Fleet Special (filly; Afleet Alex - Dance Alexa by Southern Halo) sat off the early pace, made a run in the turn and got up late to break her maiden in her Maiden Claiming race at Charles Town. Watch the Replay.

Stately Victor (colt; Ghostzapper - Collect the Cash by Dynaformer) closed with a rush in his Allowance race on the turf at Gulfstream Park, but could get no closer than 5th. Considering how speed-favoring the Gulfstream turf has been of late, this was a very good effort. Watch the Replay.

March 8 Entry

Afleet Jane (filly; Afleet Alex - North Lake Jane by Meadowlake) faces 6 in race 1 at Philadelphia Park, a mile and 70 yard Maiden Claiming race. Post time is 12:25 PM ET. Afleet Jane has run 4 times, finishing second twice and third once. Most recently, she was second in a mile and 70 yard Maiden Claiming race at Philadelphia Park on January 22. Since then, she's a couple of times, including 3 furlongs in :38.00 at Delaware Park on March 2.

Returning Worker

Hurricane Harbor (colt; Rockport Harbor - Sweet Sixteen by Montbrook) went 2 furlongs in :25.00 at Hollywood Park.

anna

well as seeing that the st liams are all great granddaughters or grandsons of the decent but evil turf runner halo that's not surprising.

Salaam Alaykum's maiden victory was far more better than you realized.  Coming off of a tough start at Saratoga; she beat a field that had half sisters to Film Maker, Pomeroy, Shakespeare, Fantastic Shirl, Aud, English Channel and King of Rome, another that is stake's placed to Tapitsfly and another $1.1MM yearling.  Impressive.
