Stakes Results

Dublin (colt; Afleet Alex - Classy Mirage by Storm Bird) made a nice move in the Rebel Stakes (gr. II), but weakened late and finished 3rd. The winner was Lookin At Lucky, who just got up over Noble's Promise. Watch the Replay. Read more about the Rebel here.

Imaginary Saint (filly; Saint Liam - Imaginary Cat by Storm Cat) was in a good spot early, but hit a wall in the Florida Oaks (gr. III) and was eased late. Miss Afleet Alex (filly; Afleet Alex - Go Again Valid by Valid Appeal) never really got on track, finishing 8th. The winner was Diva Delite, who was winning her 5th race in a row. Watch the Replay. Read more about the Florida Oaks here.

Saint Spirit (filly; Saint Liam - Unbridled Spirit by Unbridled's Song) went after the lead in the Scottsdale Handicap at Turf Paradise, but she had to check hard on the turn and was eased.

Racing was cancelled at Aqueduct, so Liam's Dream (filly; Saint Liam - Danzig's Dreamer by Rubiano) was left in the barn. The Cicada Stakes will be rescheduled for March 20. We'll see if Liam's Dream is in next week.

New Madrid Shakes Oaklawn

The track was fast, and Dirty Cerday (Strong Hope - Cozzena Cozzena by Cozzene) was the only scratch. Broken Tango (Broken Vow - Tango Passion by Tabasco Cat), last seen running in California, was favored. New Madrid (Rock Hard Ten - Back to Earth by Theatrical (IRE)) was getting some respect at 3-1. Tiz Dangerous (Tiznow - Alpine Ice by Forestry) had some spring in his step. New Madrid warmed up nicely. New Madrid got off to a good start. Tiz Dangerous was on the lead, but New Madrid soon joined him. These two dueled for awhile. New Madrid got his head in front in the stretch, and then pulled away. He did seem to have a little trouble maintaining a straight path, but he won easily. Tiz Dangerous held second, and Smokin Star (Smoke Glacken - Exploding Star by Exploit) showed some interest late to finish third. Favorite Broken Tango was never much of a threat, finishing 7th. Watch the Replay.

Alex Answers All

The turf was good, and only the AEs were scratched. Debuter Trackman (Empire Maker - Stormy Bear by Storm Cat) was favored. Go Ask Alex (Afleet Alex - Dominique's Joy by Strawberry Road (AUS)) was close to 12-1. They Call Him El (El Corredor - Scintillating Suzi by Tri Jet) looked good, as they headed out to the turf course. I didn't see much of Go Ask Alex in the prelims, I was just hoping for a good start. Go Ask Alex certainly delivered on that account, outbreaking the field. Shawcolataddiction (Sky Classic - Ms Shawcolat by Mr. Shawklit) and Spoon River Lew (Maria's Mon - Stolen Pleasures by Marfa) were the closest pursuers, but they were a good three lengths back. Go Ask Alex continued to lead into the stretch. Twilight Bay (Purge - Tiz Twilight by Tiznow) and Tonto Fontenot (Canadian Frontier - Blue Stream by King of Kings (IRE)) both made late runs, but Go Ask Alex was long gone. Watch the Replay.

The Devil Laughs at Azurite

No scratches in this one. Taking most of the money were first-timer Devils Humor (Distorted Humor - Fleet Renee by Seattle Slew) and Lookn Even Finer (Point Given - Lookn Mighty Fine by Peterhof), who was disqualified from a win 2 starts back. Azurite (Rock Hard Ten - Aztec Pearl by A. P. Indy) was getting no respect for her debut, going off close to 40-1. I kind of liked the look of Rundown (More Than Ready - Seattle Shimmer by Seattle Slew), although Forever Endeavor (Fusaichi Pegasus - Tricky Indy by A. P. Indy) kept catching my eye. Valli With a Vow (Broken Vow - Valley Fever by Peaks and Valleys) seemed a little wild. Devils Humor broke on top, but Offlee Classy (Offlee Wild - Lake Leman by Meadowlake) didn't let her get too far ahead. Azurite was not in a bad spot. Devils Humor pulled free in the stretch, and ended up winning by 5. Picking up second late was Azurite, who made a nice debut herself. Watch the Replay.

Must Be Right

There were no scratches, and the turf was firm. Favoritism fell on Elegant (Maria's Mon - Feminine by Tale of the Cat), while Kaysa Deeya (Rock Hard Ten - Pleasant Emily by Pleasant Tap) was 9-1. She looked good in the paddock. Holy Flapper (Holy Bull - Flapper Dancer by Fappiano) was on her toes, and she acted up a bit in the gate. Kaysa Deeya was off slowly. Kakalina (Memo (CHI) - Kassidy Kate by Siphon (BRZ)) went to the front, but I'mneverwrong (Compton Place (GB) - Anthyllis (IRE) by Night Shift) came up the inside to snatch the lead. She got clear in the stretch, as Kakalina faded. Coming on late was Tashzara (Intikhab - Sun Shower (IRE) by Irish Ridge (IRE)), but I'mneverwrong had enough left to hold her off for the win, as Irish-breds finished 1-2. Kaysa Deeya passed some late and finished 5th. She'll improve with a better start. Watch the Replay.

The Winding Road to Victory

Favoritism bounced around in this one. Lacrosse Player (Saint Liam - Almost Saintly by St. Jovite) was the early choice, but the other first-timer, Winding Road (Midway Road - Dixie Velvet by Dixieland Band), was favored at post time. Lacrosse Player went off at 5-1. Go for Dough (Repent - Fight On Hillary by Premiership) looked good on the track. Lacrosse was a little stubborn at the load. Maybe for good reason, he veered in at the start and hit the gate. As a result, he was near the back. In front was Range Man (Powerscourt (GB) - Bees 'n' Money by Personal Flag). His nearest pursuers were Where's My Wire (Oro Negra - Diazo Sport by Diazo) and Meet Me Midway (Midway Road - Comeawaywithme by Maria's Mon). Winding Road came rolling on the outside, and went by Range Man for the win. Lacrosse Player beat one, finishing 7th.

The Winning Wager for Bruno

Unusually Lucky (Unusual Heat - Expsara by Expressman) was favored. Vezuviy (Ghostzapper - My Time Now by Unbridled) was close to 30-1. Thecurlyhaireddude (Western Fame - Dinner Atthe Steer by Candi's Gold) looked good in the paddock. Vezuviy (Ghostzapper - My Time Now by Unbridled) seemed to be lacking focus in the post parade. Unusually Lucky and Ashore (Dixie Union - Offshore Breeze by Thunder Gulch) dueled early. Vezuviy was at the back. In the stretch, Unusually Lucky pulled free to a clear lead. But, he couldn't hold off a closing Bruno's Wager (Valid Wager - Miss Kristin by High Brite), who took the win. King Kelly (Marino Marini - Ask Dorothy by Smart Strike) came running late to pick up third. Vezuviy ran last the whole way round, but he did catch the field at the end. Watch the Replay.
