Winning the Hard Way

There were no scratches. S C Song Girl (Southern Image - Nanocity by Carson City) was favored, but also getting of attention at the windows were Hard Way Ten (Rock Hard Ten - Youcan'ttakeme by He's Tops) and Misinjennuous (Tapit - Everyone's Honour by Mt. Livermore). Kayce Ace (Tiznow - Sweet Damsel by Turkoman), the full-sister to Colonel John and Mr. Hot Stuff, was on her toes. Hard Way Ten was all business. Candy's Affair (Candy Ride (ARG) - Jealous Wildcat by Forest Wildcat), the full-sister to Evita Argentina, appeared to be a handful. Hard Way Ten really looked nice on the track. Kayce Ace was a little reluctant to load. She had been scratched at the gate in a previous attempt. S C Song Girl went to the lead, with So Nice (Fusaichi Pegasus - Trusty Lady by Deputy Minister) alongside. Hard Way Ten had a nice spot in third. So Nice began to fade, as Hard Way Ten made her move. S C Song Girl hung in for awhile, but she was no match for Hard Way Ten, who won rather easily. Kayce Ace was flying late, and took second in a photo over S C Song Girl, whose jockey lost the whip in the stretch. Look for Kayce Ace to be about 4-5 next time out. Watch the Replay.

I like both Hard Way Ten and Kayce Ace.  Both are very nice looking fillies.  Kayce Ace  is real tall and leggy, and should continue to improve with time and longer distances.

Candy's Affair doesn't have the red chestnut coat of her sister, but she's alot bigger than Evita.

Oh stop!  You had me at "Rock..".  I guess I'll be checking out the Fair Grounds today.  I've also been waiting to see Mine Train.  I don't understand his previous finishes, because his works have been absolute bullets.

Also Bear's Hard Ten won the 2009 Display Stakes, and the ill-fated The Mailet won the 2009 Miesque (gr. IIIT).

Anybody see the 1 mi turf maiden win, last weekend at Fairgrounds, a horse who "got a bit away" from his jock, opened up ten after 3/8ths, field spread way out like a closers race---yet he wins by several eased up lengths....name is "Go Ask Alex", by Afleet Alex....

I finally got to see Mine Train.  Beautiful colt, has speed, but may be a better sprinter for now.  He was up near the lead in the first 4 furlongs, then got in a duel with a 50-1 shot and was used up by the last furlong and had nothing left to keep Raphael Alejandro from passing him.  Elkhorn Creek blew right past them both.  Tenacious Allison...hmmm..

..not sure if she may have stumbled out of the gate...not very impressive.

Matthew-Maiden watch has a write up on that race march 13. New Madrid won his maiden at Oaklawn the same day.

He doesn't have a G1 winner- Long Lashes won a listed stake as well as the G3 Sweet Solara stakes. She ran in the G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes but she ran 7th. I'm sure he'll get a G1 winner from his first crop eventually. :)
