Finding the Winning Groove

Glory Wit a Story (Singletary - Olive the Twist by Theatrical (IRE)) was scratched, leaving a field of 5. Inner Groove (Rock Hard Ten - Secret Ballad by Saint Ballado) took the early and late money, going off at even money. However, the longest shot on the board, Princess Sucree (Tenpins - Lady Sucree by Miner's Mark), was only 11-1. Red Barchetta (Seeking the Gold - Indy Five Hundred by A. P. Indy) was an eye-catcher in the paddock. Inner Groove also made a good impression in the paddock, and was looking ready to go once on the track. Inner Groove made the lead from her outside post, pressed by Red Barchetta. The fractions were pretty soft: :25.22, :50.27. Inner Groove began to sneak away after 6 furlongs, and then really began running in the stretch to win by 5. Lady Whimsical (Cactus Ridge - Sienna Lady by Mr. Greeley) secured second, a good 4 lengths ahead of the rest, while Caftan (Awesome Again - Jilbab by A. P. Indy) made up some ground late for third. Watch the Replay. P.S. I wanted to name the blog "Grooving On A Inner Plane" after the Robyn Hitchcock song that I always sing when I hear Inner Groove's name, but I wasn't sure anyone would get it.

Enchanting Jeremy's Kitten

Hali's Swan (Halifax - Gut Approval by With Approval) and the AEs were scratched (they are entered in race 8 at Tampa Bay Downs on March 26, see below.). Enchanted Miss (Untuttable - Brown Eyed Woman by De Niro) was favored at less than even money, but Jeremy's Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Wendy's Dream by Crafty Prospector) was respected at almost 4-1, down from her morning line of 12-1. Carol's Castle (Cashel Castle - Carol's Sparkle by Jaycean) kicked up her heels in the post parade. Jeremy's Kitten was on her toes and was looking good. Undisputed Queen (Montbrook - Breadknife by Hansel) also looked ready, and it was hard to fault favorite Enchanted Miss. Livalicious (Mr. Livingston - Friendly Mickey by Friendly Lover) acted up during the load, but they got her in without much trouble. The start was good for most, except Carol's Castle, who broke in the air. Undisputed Queen won the scramble for the lead. There was trouble in the first turn. Laurels for Eunice (Colony Light - Pink Pillow by Gold Crest) veered out, causing My Power Bullet (Red Bullet - Profit Deal by Dynaformer) to clip heels. She went down hard. Livalicious lost her rider, as she went over the fallen rider. Timber Lane (Prime Timber - Fast Lane Terry by Root Boy) was taken up to avoid the spill, and was pretty much out of the race. Among those still in the race, Undisputed Queen continued to lead over Laurels for Eunice and Enchanted Miss. Jeremy's Kitten was in a good spot in fourth. Enchanted Miss made her move in the stretch, and quickly surged to a several lengths lead. Laurels for Eunice held second despite running erratically, and Jeremy's Kitten took the third spot. There was a stewards' inquiry into the incident on the first turn. Laurels for Eunice was disqualified and placed last, and Jeremy's Kitten was placed second. Please be warned that My Power Bullet's fall is featured prominently in the replay. Watch the Replay.

I would like to congratulate Calvin Borel on his Billy Hartack Award. Calvin Borel has the spirit of the 1930's jockeys when he rides. He's a Louisiana Man with a Kentucky Ride! Calvin and Jeremy Rose is alot like him-they are true jockeys. They bond with their horses in an old fashioned way. Any racehorse in his maiden ride would be lucky to have Calvin ride him. Go Calvin!! Glory is fleeting but we will never forget you and Rachel A.
