Stakes Result

Harissa (filly; Afleet Alex - Dynasty by Time for a Change) went right after early leader Hayley's Halo in the Sunland Park Oaks. Those two dueled into the stretch, when Harissa began to pull away. She went on to win by a convincing 3.5 lengths in her dirt debut. Harissa has now run 7 times, with 2 wins, 2 seconds, 1 third, and earnings of $174,520. Could the Kentucky Oaks be next for Harissa? Remember Gabby's Golden Gal won this race last year, before setting the pace in the Kentucky Oaks. Granted she tired to finish 6th behind Rachel Alexandra, but Gabby's Golden Gal returned to win the grade I Acorn later that year. Then this year, Gabby's Golden Gal won the grade I Santa Monica at Santa Anita. Watch the Sunland Park Oaks Replay. Read more about the Sunland Park Oaks here.

Storming Away from Sheltowee

Bristol Boy (A Spot of Greatnes - Rustic Kitten by Doc's Leader) was scratched. Sheltowee (Saint Liam - Crafty Oak by Crafty Prospector) was favored. Also receiving attention from the bettors were Storm Lake (Quaker Ridge - Stop Stalling by Stalwart) and Pinum Eddy (Broken Vow - Too Many Holes by Touch Gold). Storm Lake, Sheltowee, and Pinum Eddy previously finished 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, while facing each other at Hawthorne on March 10. Pinum Eddy was a little anxious as the post parade began, but soon settled down. Alot of Honey (Buddha - Tejano Honey by Tejano Run) had some pep. Sheltowee looked good as usual. Alot of Honey and Storm Lake were out fastest. Sheltwee was at the back, as is his custom. Alot of Honey sprinted to a clear lead, pursued by Storm Lake and Rob Young (He's a Tough Cat - Baltic Pearl by Sevastopol). Sheltowee made a bid, but stalled in fourth. Storm Lake, Rob Young, and Alot of Honey hit the wire together. Storm Lake took the win by a head. Alot of Honey and Rob Young finished in a deadheat. However, Alot of Honey was disqualified and placed third for bumping Storm Lake and forcing him into Rob Young. Watch the Replay.

Senada Charges Home

The only scratches were the AEs and MTOs, and the turf was good. Unison (Unbridled's Song - Melody Maiden by Saint Ballado) took the early money, but Senada (Pulpit - Owsley by Harlan) was favored at post time. Debuting Bail Out Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Bail Out Becky by Red Ransom) was 5-1, and Zapparition (Ghostzapper - Herzblatt by Cozzene), making her second start, was 14-1. Debuter Asscher Rose (Dynaformer - Rose Diamond by Diamond Shoal (GB)) made a good first impression in the paddock. Senada, the most experienced filly, was on the muscle. Zapparition warmed up nicely. Voila (More Than Ready - Viva La Viva by Crafty Prospector) was a tad reluctant at the load. Heart Union (Dixie Union - Pleasant Heart by Pleasant Colony) was not at all sure about the gate, and needed some persuading. The rest were standing quietly, waiting for Heart Union to go into her 12 hole. Zapparition went to the lead, pressed by My Juanita (Smoke Glacken - Dynashore by Dynaformer). Bail Out Kitten had a nice rail spot. My Juanita sprinted clear of Zapparition, who kept on in second. Behind her, Senada and Oregon Lady (Shamardal - Oregon Trail by Gone West) were waiting to pounce. Senada made a move after 6 furlongs. She took the lead in the stretch, and held off Oregon Lady for the win. Bubble Gum (Awesome Again - River Flower by Strodes Creek) was along for third at big odds. Bail Out Kitten ran fairly evenly, finishing 5th. Zapparition tired after her early involvement, ending up 9th. Watch the Replay.
