Kindergarden Kid Plays on the Grass

The turf was good. Road to Babylon (Concorde's Tune - Faithful City by Hooched) was the only scratch from the main field, and AE entrant Ronin Justice (Skip Trial - Masara Key by Top Account) was also out. The other AE, Kruise Kontrol (Weekend Cruise - Dancing Goldwater by Goldwater), got to run. Kindergarden Kid (Dynaformer - Amelia by Dixieland Band), fourth in his first and only start, was the big favorite. Quechee (Afleet Alex - Tarika by Cozzene) took a little action at 9-1. Tigresco (Dynaformer - Dolce Amore by Relaunch) was catching my eye in the paddock. En Fuego (El Prado (IRE) - Meridiana (GER) by Lomitas (GB)) was getting blinkers off. Quechee is a striking gray, he looked good on the track. However, it was hard to fault the favorite on appearance. Holy Knight (Sligo Bay (IRE) - Baby Zip by Relaunch), a 5-year-old half brother to Ghostzapper and City Zip, making just his third start; was a little reluctant to load. Kindergarden Kid broke on top, but didn't want the lead. Charismaticspring (Honor Glide - Saratoga Spring by Charismatic) went to the front, but blew the first turn, taking Kruise Kontrol (Weekend Cruise - Dancing Goldwater by Goldwater) with him. Even so, those two continued in front. Quechee was in mid-pack, but secured a good position. Kruise Kontrol took a brief two length lead, but was soon overtaken by Bay of Wicklow (Sligo Bay (IRE) - Light On Her Toes by Skip Away). He led into the stretch, but the troops were coming. Kindergarden Kid, En Fuego, Ryvit (Tapit - Ryvnine by Broad Brush), and Quechee were all closing. Kindergarden Kid was the clear winner, but the minor award winners were separated by a nose and a neck. Nice run for Quechee, who also galloped out strong. I think distance may be his game. Any two mile turf Maiden Special Weights on the horizon? Watch the Replay.
