Two-Year-Olds at Keeneland; Must be Spring

  • Comments

It was a beautiful day for Preview Day for the 2010 Keeneland April Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale. I got to see some Rockport Harbors, some Bluegrass Cats, and of course Wilburn (colt; Bernardini - Moonlight Sonata by Carson City), who worked three-eighths of a mile just after the first track renovation break. I did not see any Henny Hughes workers. They must have hit the track after I had to leave. I also saw offspring by other first-crop sires like Aragorn, First Samurai, and Silver Train. Other interesting workers were a half brother to Eight Belles, a filly out of grade I winner Spain, and a colt out of champion Xtra Heat. Also of interest was hip #145, a filly by Officer. Named Goodeveningofficer, she merely galloped, as she is scheduled to run at Keeneland on Saturday. Luckily, I persuaded our chief photographer Anne Eberhardt to snap a few photos, so you don't have to endure my lack of skills in that department.

April 2 Entries

We have our first 2-year-old race of the year, so that means that for now the 3-year-old entries will be moved to "Other Entries." The 3-year-olds will eventually be phased out, but we'll continue to track them for a time. As a reminder, this year's stallions are: Bellamy Road, Bernardini, Bluegrass Cat, Henny Hughes, and Rockport Harbor. These stallions were picked by reader vote. Each Maiden Special Weight race featuring one of our 2-year olds will be previewed. Although more attention will be given to the entrants by our stallions, information about every horse in the race will be presented in some detail. As always, please feel free to comment on any maidens, whether they are by the chosen stallions or not.
