Firepole Slides into the Winner's Circle

Aroyalsweet (Chapel Royal - Zamsweet by Zamindar) was scratched, she'll run on April 9 at Keeneland instead (see below). Firepole (Hook and Ladder - Talamanca by St. Jovite) made a good impression in the paddock. The bettors had trouble deciding on a favorite, with Voyles (Officer - Yes It's Gold by Yes It's True) and Madman Diaries (Bring the Heat - Harper N Abbey by Outflanker) taking plenty of action. However, Firepole got the nod at post time. Stringer Bell (Silver Train - Thara by Hennessy), the first runner for Silver Train, went off at 14-1. Madman Diaries looked ready for action, as they moved to the track. Firepole and Madman Diaries were off fastest, with Firepole grabbing the lead. Voyles made a move wide, but weakened late and ended up fourth. Madman Diaries tried throughout, but he couldn't get to Firepole, who got the win by half a length. Saturday Dance (Roman Ruler - Sweetstorm Amy by Lemon Drop Kid) made up some ground on the inside, to pick up third late. Stringer Bell trailed throughout, finishing 7th (last). Watch the Replay.

RH10's fillies are really storming onto the scene.  Loved Hard Call's race.  A bit disappointed in Rock America.

I hope Take Control is back on the track soon.  He was a marvel in his maiden..gawky and green, once he put his head down, and blew past the leaders..I was impressed.  Azeri has a nice one.

well take control certainly wasn't sure about the gate in his first start but once he got going he slipt horses and drew up easily. he should be galloping and probably breeze in a couple weeks. maybe he will go to the peter pan then run in the belmont stakes. since he was gave 60 days off for a bucked shin. no more yogi's was scratched from the first race at keeneland today

I just read the "Personal Ensign" article and all of you at Bloodhorse are so very compassionate in your writing. When you look at Personal Ensign, you can see the stamina and "Seabiscuit" character that racehorses use to have. They had a more farm-horse tough look to them. Few have that look now. We breed now more for speed. Good-bye Personal Ensign.
