News and Notes

Crown the King netted his first winner as a sire, when Leon Ayala (ridgling; Crown the King - Kiri Te by Romanov (IRE)) won the second race at Santa Anita on April 8.

The Heir Apparent

Unfortunately, I was busy and missed the prelims for this one. No More Yogi's (Salt Lake - Yogi's Polar Bear by Lucky Lionel) was scratched. Her entry-mate, Aroyalsweet (Chapel Royal - Zamsweet by Zamindar), was favored. Also getting attention from the bettors was Ridem Up (Candy Ride (ARG) - Halo Tyra by Sunny's Halo). Grand Distraction (Artie Schiller - Deal Us In by Mister Baileys (GB)), the first runner for Artie Schiller, was 29-1. Aroyalsweet broke best and established a clear lead. However, She'll Heir (Wildcat Heir - The Tricks On Me by Favorite Trick) came rolling 4-wide, caught, and then passed, the leader. She pulled away for a fairly easy 1 1/2 length victory. Aroyalsweet was well-clear of third-place Ridem Up. Grand Distraction broke slowly and passed one to finish 5th. Watch the Replay.
