Go Ask Alex (filly; Afleet Alex - Dominique's Joy by Strawberry Road (AUS)) looked ready before the Appalachian Stakes (gr. III), but she was off a beat slow. However, she was rushed up to chase favorite Rose Catherine (Speightstown - Great Plains Lady by Peaks and Valleys) at the front. Go Ask Alex wanted to go, and moved alongside Rose Catherine. Those two were 1-2 for 6 furlongs. At that point, Go Ask Alex began to tire. She ended up 7th. Rose Catherine hung around longer, but was passed by Check the Label (Stormin Fever - Don't Trick Her by Mazel Trick) and Bay to Bay (Sligo Bay (IRE) - Bala by With Approval). Bay to Bay was gaining at the end, but she couldn't catch Check the Label, who picked up her first stakes victory. Despite her final placing, Go Ask Alex didn't have a bad stakes debut. It's not the easiest jump from Maiden victory to Grade III stakes, and she was compromised by her tardy start. Watch the Replay. Read more about the Appalachian here.
