He's the Man

Grass Affair (Dehere - Affair At Dawn by Black Tie Affair (IRE)), Double Jigger (Hennessy - Successfully by Affirmed), Le Bon Ton Roule (French Envoy - Ghazidora by Ghazi), and Sweet William (Bring the Heat - Wish for a Jeanne by Roar) were scratched. Sweet William's entrymate, Metropolitan Man (Hook and Ladder - Hasty Cat by Tabasco Cat), was favored at even money. Blue Right By (Bluegrass Cat - Shades of Grace by Seeking the Gold) was 25-1 at post time. Metropolitan Man looked ready. Changing the Rules (Peace Rules - War At the Top by War Chant) made a good impression. But the one that really caught my eye was Powhatan County (Fusaichi Pegasus - Franscat by Stormin Fever), both in the paddock and on the track. Blue Right By looked like he was one step away from losing control. He objected a bit to the gate, kicking up his heels. Casper's Touch (Touch Gold - Lizzy Cool by Saint Ballado) was also a little reluctant to load. Metropolitan Man went right to the lead. Blue Right By didn't get the best start, but he soon got going and moved into second. However, no one was getting close to Metropolitan Man, who went from 4 in front to 6, to win by more than 7. Blue Right By tired late and finished 5th. Changing the Rules overcame hitting the gate at the start to finish second, and Powhatan County and Casper's Touch were a head apart in 3rd and 4th.
