Derby Results

Dublin (Afleet Alex - Classy Mirage by Storm Bird) finished the best of our three. He lost ground and had to steady in the first portion of the race, but had a fairly clean trip after that. He was able to save ground most of the way, and then swung out for the stretch. He got up to 5th, but tired a bit late and finished 7th, just behind favorite Lookin At Lucky. It's on to the Preakness for Dublin. Stately Victor (Ghostzapper - Collect the Cash by Dynaformer) received mention as one of those that bumped favorite Lookin At Lucky, but watching the replay, you can see that it was eventual 3rd-place finisher Paddy O'Prado who forced Stately Victor into Lookin At Lucky. Stately Victor raced near the back after that, and then made a nice move on the second turn. His run, however, was stalled at 8th. Stately Victor may be pointed to the Belmont. Dean's Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Summer Theatre by Ide) was in tight at the start, and then ran fairly steadily, finishing 14th. I would expect him to return to the synthetic or the turf. I was pretty proud of my boy Ice Box (Pulpit - Spice Island by Tabasco Cat), who was stopped at least 3 times, but kept on coming to finish second. Hopefully, we'll seem him next in the Belmont. However, Congratulations go out to 2010 Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver (Maria's Mon - Supercharger by A. P. Indy) and his connections, including trainer Todd Pletcher and jockey Calvin Borel. I did manage to get the exacta, having learned never to leave Calvin out at Churchill Downs. Maiden Watch is not without a connection to the victor, as Super Saver's dam, Supercharger, is a full sister to Bluegrass Cat's dam, She's a Winner. Watch the Replay.

Calvin was sensational on Super Saver.  But pure class from Ice Box, Stately Victor, and LAL  who were all bumped so hard (most would have then quit), but all came back and tried harder.  And I hear New Madrid is going into the Preakness.  RH10's babies skyrocket up.

Do you know what's happening to Take Control (AP Indy+Azeri)?  I can't wait to see him get back to the track.  His maiden race was spectacular in Sea The Stars fashion. (green in the post parade, green in the race, then closed like a bullet).

Do you think Super Saver can keep it going through the Preakness and Belmont?

05 May 2010 10:48 AM

How is Fast Alex doing? I haven't seen anything on him lately, unless I missed something.
