Dixieland Bulls Her Way by Your Momma

There were no scratches. Hughes Your Momma (Henny Hughes - With Flair by Broad Brush) opened at 3-5, and went off as a slight favorite over Explosive Elle (Forest Danger - Explosive Beauty by Proudest Romeo). Hughes Your Momma looked good in the paddock, but got a little aggravated as they moved to the track. Rider Kirk LeBlanc was off for a time, and she was swishing her tail furiously during the warm-up. El Rebecca (El Corredor - Judaea by Relaunch) looked good in the post parade. The load took forever, not unexpected with a field of mostly unraced 2-year-old fillies. Hughes Your Momma balked a little, but was soon in. Red Hot Deal (Ore Deal - Biscuit Eater by Kentucky Jazz) and Explosive Elle were more trouble. Finally, they were off. Dixieland Bull (Holy Bull - Placid Star by Placid Fund) made for the front, followed by Hughes Your Momma and Candi's Kitten (Osidy - Heavenly Psalm by Distorted Humor). Ironically, the only filly with prior racing experience, Shesatop Ridge (Ben's Ridge (GB) - Shesatop Spender by Spend a Buck) hesitated at the start and trailed. Candi's Kitten moved by Hughes Your Momma to engage Dixieland Bull. These two dueled for much of the stretch. On the scene late was El Rebecca, who rallied up the rail. Dixieland Bull finished a head in front of El Rebecca, who was another head in front of Candi's Kitten. The trio was better than 3 lengths in front of fourth place Hughes Your Momma. Sheltowee (gelding; Saint Liam - Crafty Oak by Crafty Prospector) lingered at the back in the early stages of race 3 at Arlington Park, a 1 1/16 mile Maiden Special Weight, as is his custom. He was swung wide for the stretch run and ran them all down for a nice victory. I guess start number 11 was the charm. I think the key was that jockey Eddie Perez waited until the last possible moment, as we know that Sheltowee has a tendency to hang. Watch the Replay.

Hunters Bay (colt; Ghostzapper - Smok'n Frolic by Smoke Glacken) went right to the front in race 6 at Belmont Park, a 1 1/16 mile Maiden Special Weight, and never looked back. The winning margin was an impressive 8.5 lengths. This one was especially satisfying, as the announcers were doubting his chances before the race. They were unimpressed with his debut, and stated that Ghostzappers were only doing well on turf and Polytrack. Watch the Replay.

Jungle Lily (filly; Kitten's Joy - Raving by Dynaformer) grabbed the lead at the start of race 4 at Hastings, a 6.5 furlong Maiden Claiming race, and never looked back, breaking her maiden in her first try.

Ophiuchus (filly; Afleet Alex - Nymphenburg by San Romano) finished 4th in race 2 at Woodbine, a mile and a sixteenth Maiden Special Weight. Watch the Replay.

Furious Run (colt; Rock Hard Ten - One Dream Cat by Storm Cat) made up some ground late to finish 4th in race 7 at Arlington Park, a Claiming race taken off the turf and run at a mile and a sixteenth on the main track. Watch the Replay.

La Cloche (filly; Ghostzapper - Memories of Silver by Silver Hawk) and Fantasma (filly; Ghostzapper - Cindy's Hero by Sea Hero) were both scratched from race 9 at Belmont Park, a Maiden Special Weight at a mile on the turf.

Trinity Run (colt; Ghostzapper - Lake Windermere by Fit to Fight) was scratched from race 11 at Churchill Downs, a mile Allowance on the turf.
