Changing the Rules to Break the Bracket

There were no scratches in this 6 horse race. Changing the Rules (Peace Rules), who finished 2nd in his only previous race, was favored. Bracket Buster (Henny Hughes - Code of Love by Cryptoclearance) was respected at 2-1. He is a big boy, and made a strong impression strutting through the paddock. He looked calm on the track. The bugler called the horses to the post with "The Caissons Go Rolling Along," a nice touch on Memorial Day. Major Score (Forest Camp - Acklen by Smart Strike) balked a little at the load. Changing the Rules went to the lead, River City Gem (Perfect Soul (IRE) - Dancing Marrea by Lord At War (ARG)) was the closest pursuer. Bracket Buster was sitting in 4th early. Changing the Rules began moving farther and farther away from the rest. Bracket Buster claimed second, despite jumping a shadow, but he was no match for Changing the Rules, who won by an impressive 12 lengths. Watch the Replay.

Hard Seven Takes the Judgement

The only scratch was AE Scarlett's Sequel (Wildcat Heir - Afleet's Gold by Afleet). Carol's Friend (Friends Lake - Topography by Canyon Creek (IRE)) took the early money, but she was 6-1 at post time. Favored was Sweet Tizzy Lizzy (Tiznow - Sweet November by Storm Cat), who was second on May 13 at Prairie Meadows. Judge This (Rockport Harbor - Selina Kyle by Storm Cat) was 10-1. Diane's Grey Dawn (Pomeroy - A Vision in Gray by Two Punch), by freshman sire Pomeroy, had some spring in her step in the paddock. Hard Seven (Rock Hard Ten - Essence of Success by Deputy Minister) was a bit rambunctious as they headed to the track. Judge This made a good impression in the post parade, and Sweet Tizzy Lizzy looked good as well. Carol's Friend hesitated a bit at the load, and Hard Seven gave the assistant starters some trouble. Despite the presence of 10 mostly unraced 2-year-old fillies, the start was pretty even. Diane's Grey Dawn and Sweet Tizzy Lizzy battled for the early lead. Hard Seven was sitting just off of these. Judge This was in a decent spot, around 4th or 5th. On the turn, Hard Seven moved to the outside, and motored on by the pacesetters. Diane's Grey Dawn pulled away from Sweet Tizzy Lizzy for second. Judge This made up some ground late and won the photo for fourth. She might do better going a little longer. Watch the Replay.
