Trix Are for Katz at Seaman Harbor

Best wishes to Maiden Watch horse Stately Victor (colt; Ghostzapper - Collect the Cash by Dynaformer) in the Belmont Stakes (gr. I). He'll be a longshot, but longshot winners are not uncommon in the Belmont. Ice Box was my Derby pick, so I'll have to stick with him, but would love to see Stately Victor in the exacta or the trifecta.

Neebras Speaks Loudest

There were no scratches and the turf was rated good. Neebras (IRE) (Oasis Dream (GB) - Crossmolina (IRE) by Halling) was favored. Spokesperson (Henny Hughes - Verbal by Kingmambo) was 25-1. Reachforthebucks (GB) (Phoenix Reach (IRE) - Miles (GB) by Selkirk) was acting up as they neared the start, the jockey was off. The load was pretty uneventful, but Cadeaux Pearl (GB) (Acclamation (GB) - Anneliina (GB) by Cadeaux Genereux (GB)) was off slowly. Reachforthebucks went for the lead, with Arabian Star (IRE) (Green Desert - Kassiopeia (IRE) by Galileo (IRE)), Frankish Dynasty (GER) (Holy Roman Emperor (IRE) - Fantastic Belle (IRE) by Night Shift), and Oliver's Gold (GB) (Danehill Dancer (IRE) - Gemini Gold (IRE) by King's Best) chasing. Spokesperson secured a drafting position, about mid-pack. Favored Neebras did not have the best beginning, and was racing wide, but once he got going, he came running and went by them all for a very smart victory. Arabian Star had a brief lead, but was no match for Neebras. Spokesperson did some running on the rail to finish third, a decent debut for him. Watch the Replay.

Other Three-Year Old Results

Shirley She Can (filly; Rock Hard Ten - Party Chatter by Pleasant Colony) went right to the lead of her Maiden Special Weight at 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Belmont, and set comfortable fractions. MTO Fantasma (filly; Ghostzapper - Cindy's Hero by Sea Hero) was scratched. Watch the Replay.

Ghost Shopper (colt; Ghostzapper - Shop Till You Drop by Thunder Gulch) finished second in race 11 at Churchill Downs, a Maiden Special Weight at a mile on the turf. Indy) finished just a neck apart in second and third in race 7 at Arlington Park, a 1 1/16 mile Allowance/Optional Claiming race on the turf. They were 4 lengths behind the winner. Watch the Replay.

Vivacious Anna (filly; Afleet Alex - Petite Chatte by Storm Cat) was in quite an eventful race at Mountaineer, a 6 furlong Claiming race. First, a horse was cast in the gate and scratched. Then, the favorite reared, dumped her rider, turned around in the gate, got loose, and was then scratched. Once they reloaded for the second time, Vivacious Anna got off to a good start and even put her head in front for a time, but she couldn't sustain it and finished 6th. Watch the Replay.

Gaucho (colt; Ghostzapper - Fashion Cat by Forest Wildcat) was scratched from race 10 at Calder, a 7 furlong Maiden Special Weight.

jason forde - maidenwatch is following the first crop offspring of Bellamy Road, Bernardini, Bluegrass Cat, Henny Hughes, and Rockport Harbor. These stallions were determined by reader vote. However, I encourage folks to post about any and all maidens, especially 2-year-olds. We would love it if you would keep us updated on your colt's progress.
