News and Notes

Congratulations to Mike Smith, Bill Mott, and all the WinStar folks for Drosselmeyer's victory in the Belmont Stakes (gr. I). He was the best looking horse in the post parade, and looked like a winner the whole way. Stately Victor (colt; Ghostzapper - Collect the Cash by Dynaformer) finished 8th (placed 7th with the disqualification of Uptowncharlybrown). I didn't see any excuse for him, it may be time to return to the synthetic or the turf. However, Stately Victor did finish in front of favorite Ice Box, who finished 9th. Nick Zito said that the Pulpit came out in Ice Box, which is another way of saying he got a little hot and bothered before the race. Several horses seemed to be compromised by the heat, most noticeably Make Music for Me, who was very hot before the race and finished 10th. Uptowncharlybrown was disqualified from 5th and placed last, because he lost the 8 pound weight pad in his saddle. That's a new one on me. Watch the Replay.

Trix Are for Katz (Bluegrass Cat - Every Trick by Grand Slam) was scratched from the 11th race at Colonial Downs. The winner of that one was Molly Mingun (Mingun - Loon Lake by Cryptoclearance). Watch the Replay.

Freshman sire Giacomo picked up his first stakes winner when Lady Giacamo (Giacomo - Lady Gallapiat by Gallapiat) won the TTA Sales Futurity at Lone Star Park. She is now 3 for 3, with earnings of $61,734. Watch the Replay.

Freshman sire Too Much Bling's first runner, Show Me the Bling (Too Much Bling - Angelic Amanda by Hennessy) was a winner at Monmouth Park. Watch the Replay.

Tristanme Breaks Away from the Harbor

The only scratch was AE entrant Rosta (Aragorn (IRE) - Kris Pit by Kris S.). Where Did She Go (Silver Train - Mad Donna by Saint Ballado), by freshman sire Silver Train, took early money, but the only experienced filly, Tristanme (Bwana Charlie - Forever Full by Full Out), was favored at post time. Seaman Harbor (Rockport Harbor - Everything by Geiger Counter) was ignored at the windows, at 24-1. She was a little on edge in the paddock, and continued to act up as they went to the track. I hoped that she would keep her jockey on. However, it was Pass Partout (Tiznow - Gumboots by Storm Boot), who dumped her rider and was running loose. She was a late scratch. I liked the look of Miss Big (Rimrod - Wolanstonita (CHI) by Wagon Master (FR)) in the post parade. The load was pretty smooth, and the break was even. Tristanme, Miss Big, and Zippity Zip (City Zip - Raney Raney by It's Freezing) went for the early lead. Seaman Harbor was sitting around mid-pack. Zippity Zip weakened after a quarter, but Tristanme and Miss Big continued to battle. Tristanme pulled away at the end for a length victory. Where Did She Go (Silver Train - Mad Donna by Saint Ballado) made a nice move up the rail to take the show spot. Seaman Harbor was also finishing well, and she got her nose in front to take fourth. Watch the Replay.
