Valiant Star Shows Some Trix

The turf was firm, and there were no scratches. Valiant Star (Grand Slam - Classic Contender by Buckfinder) was the overwhelming favorite, Trix Are for Katz (Bluegrass Cat - Every Trick by Grand Slam) was 7-1, but she was second choice. The rest of the field was double digit odds. Valiant Star looked good in the paddock. My Graduate (Lion Hearted - R. Ess V. P. by Press Card) had some bounce in her step. Trix Are for Katz was swishing her tail in the post parade, but she did that in her debut as well. Trix Are for Katz was off a little slow. Paulspinkchampagne (Im Millennium Man - Da Big Girl by Metfield) went for the early lead, Mining Town (J Town - Patty all Mine by Glitterman) and Valiant Star were chasing. Paulspickchampagne went wide, and Mining Town was green, allowing Valiant Star to get into the lead on the inside. But, she didn't really need any help. She cruised home, with the jockey barely moving. The official winning margin was 13 lengths. Trix Are for Katz recovered from her slow start to take the second spot, and Brandy's Champ (Victory Gallop - Rumbling Girl by Thunder Rumble) moved well late to pick up third. Watch the Replay.

Answering a Prayer with Class

Jada Star Stepper (Jadacus - Joyful Stepper by Raise a Governor) was scratched, leaving a field of 11. The track was fast. Private Native (Fusaichi Pegasus - Kahlo by Broad Brush) was favored, Bellamy Class (filly; Bellamy Road - Can't Buy Class by Elusive Quality) got some respect at 9-2. She balked a little at the load, but finally moved in. Seventh Prayer (Chapel Royal - Bees 'n' Money by Personal Flag) and Fiddle Player (Yonaguska - Fiddle for Me by Belong to Me) went for the early lead, with Seventh Prayer getting it. Quite Sharp (Sharp Humor - Search Light by Metfield) made a nice move up the rail to press Seventh Prayer. Bellamy Class was also amongst the chasing pack. In the stretch, Seventh Prayer pulled away to get the win by 6 1/2 lengths. Bellamy Class moved into second, getting her neck in front of Quite Sharp. Watch the Replay.

I have to say whoever thought up the name of Hughes Your Daddy for the foal what a hoot, that is a great name. I love it when a horse is a champion and he has an unforgetable name, I hope Hughes Your Daddy does well. It's a name you remember at the betting window. Good Luck to the owners. Really sharp name.
