Dr. Mont E. Brook Delivers a Winning Performance

Here for the Music (Sunday Break (JPN) - Papa Dancer by Tour d'Or) was scratched, and the track was fast. The Todd Pletcher-trained, John Velazquez-ridden, Myersrocks (Purge - Freei by Honor Grades) took all the early and late action, going off at 3-5. Dalamar (Henny Hughes - Dutchess Mojo by Deputy Minister) was 10-1. He looked good in the paddock, as did McSuave (Suave - McCaskill by Copelan), by freshman sire Suave. Dr. Mont E. Brook (Montbrook - Dr. Zachary Mason by Rexson's Hope) got a nice warm-up on the track. The load was pretty smooth, G Man Joe (Domestic Dispute - Armaison by Mamaison) hesitated, backed out, and went in again. They all got off to a good start. Skip the Trial (Domestic Dispute - Skit by West by West) went for the early lead, but was soon overtaken by Dr. Mont E. Brook. Myersrocks watched this action on the outside, and Dalamar had a good position on the rail in fourth. Dr. Mont E. Brook began to pull away in the stretch. Myersrocks gave chase, but he couldn't make up any ground, as Dr. Mont E. Brook took it by 2 1/2 lengths. Hello D. Ngata (Dance With Ravens - So Sultry by Storm Boot) got by Skip the Trial for third, while Dalamar weakened to fifth. Interestingly, the superfecta was entirely filled by the experienced horses in the race, and Dalamar was the highest finisher among the first-timers. Watch the Replay.

Don from Delaware

The maiden race at DP was an interesting result...the Plecher horse Myersrocks looked unbeatable, but Dr.Mont E Brook really dug in and held off the favorite. Although I didn't key the winner, it did give me the pick4 with an "All" thank goodness...biggest surprise to me was the #9 Hello D Ngata getting 3rd and Henny Hughes horse Dalamar not getting in the superfecta beaten by #1 Skip the trial. My heart was with Dalamar but Henny'runners seem to be slow to begin for sprinter pedigree? Late bloomers perhaps? Thanks for your comments. Don

Don from Delaware - I thought it was interesting in that race that the experienced horses finished 1-2-3-4. Regarding the Henny Hughes', they may need a race. He's only had one runner make more than one start. A couple have shown speed and then faded, sometimes that translates into victory next time. I certainly thought Dalamar looked the part pre-race.

Don - just got notice that Peb Hughes is running Saturday at Delaware. I'm excited to see his second start, since he finished a good second in his debut.
