Smarty Jill Leads an Embellished Attack

There were no scratches, and the track was fast. Favoritism jumped around a bit, but settled on Smarty Jill (Smarty Jones - Vision in Flight by Montbrook) at post time. Embellished (Bellamy Road - Birthright by Belong to Me) was 9-2. Embellished and Dreaming Dancer (Holy Bull - Dreaming Time by Green Dancer) were both on their toes in the paddock. Dreaming Dancer circled a few times as the rider got aboard. Fleet Attack (Afleet Alex - Pure Desire by Gold Legend) looked good on the track. Flatter Us (Flatter - Graph by Lord At War (ARG)) acted up a bit as she went into her warm-up, but soon got going. Embellished got a nice warm-up. The break was pretty good, Smarty Jill grabbed the lead from her rail spot. Dreaming Dancer was chasing early. Embellished made a move to get into second, but Smarty Jill was moving comfortably and extended her lead. She was a little green in the stretch, but recorded an easy 3 1/4 length victory. Fleet Attack overtook Embellished for second. Embellished seemed to run in only in spots and should improve with the experience.

Pink Pallet Paints a Win

There were no scratches, and the turf was firm. Caribbean Lady (Speightstown - Graceful Leigh by Clever Trick), Pink Pallet (Include - Art Student by El Prado (IRE)), and Sister Lois (Two Punch - Aunt Elaine by Charismatic) battled for favoritism. Sister Lois won that one. Trix Are for Katz (Bluegrass Cat - Every Trick by Grand Slam) was 12-1. Agewood (Forestry - Lovely Rafaela by A. P. Indy) looked good in the post parade, and Trix Are for Katz had some spring in her step. Pink Pallet warmed up strong. Trix Are for Katz was a little reluctant at the load, and ducked in at the start. She trailed the field early, 4 lengths behind the next horse. Winning Battle (Safe in the U S A - Myfavoritesoldier by Lost Soldier) took the early lead, with Sister Lois in pursuit. Caribbean Lady made a move wide and went to the front, but cut-off Sister Lois, causing that one to check. Flying late on the outside was Pink Pallet, who went by Caribbean Lady for the victory. Also closing well on the inside was Agewood. And, finally getting into gear late was Trix Are for Katz, who secured the fifth spot. There was a Stewards Inquiry into the stretch run, as well as a jockey's objection. Caribbean Lady was disqualified and placed 7th, behind Sister Lois. This meant that Trix Are for Katz was officially 4th. Nice win for Pink Pallet, and Agewood definitely looks like one to watch. It also looks like Trix Are for Katz might be better off making one big run. We'll see if she learned something from this start. Watch the Replay.
