No Stopping Maria

Sunlight Sonata (Unbridled's Song - Storm Away by Storm Cat) and Truffles (Forestry - Miss Cort'n by A. P. Indy) were scratched. The track was fast. The only experienced filly, Stopspendingmaria (Montbrook - Cutoffs by Notebook), took most of the bettors' attention. Jewel of Rockport (Rockport Harbor - Box of Jewels by Half a Year) was ignored at 43-1. Afaaf (Distorted Humor - Rockcide by Personal Flag), the half sister to Rule, caught my attention in the paddock. Hey Valentina (Consolidator - Luvthat' Jackie by Wild Wonder) was showing some spunk. Hoofprint (Exchange Rate - Musical Score by Romantic Lead) dispatched rider David Cohen in the post parade, but he kept her close and was soon back aboard. Jewel of Rockport is an eye-catching gray. She made a decent appearance on the track. Stopspendingmaria broke running and assumed the early lead. Preachninthestreet (Street Cry (IRE) - Preach It by Saint Ballado) and Afaaf went after her. Jewel of Rockport was bumped at the start, and didn't get going. Stopspendingmaria pulled away from the rest in the stretch, cruising home 7 in front. Networking (Officer - Zealous Connection by Unreal Zeal) moved into second. She was no threat to Stopspendingmaria, but she was 9 clear of third-place runner Hey Valentina. Jewel of Rockport beat one to finish 6th. Watch the Replay.

Looks like Bernardini will have his second starter (his first North American starter), when Texas Tempest runs on Sunday.  Can't wait to see his offspring run.
