Champagne Tommie Learns a Lesson

There were no scratches in this 6 horse field. The bettors decided that it was a 2-horse race. Champagne Tommie (Henny Hughes - Champagne Sunset by Gulch) was favored, but Lesson Learned (Songandaprayer - Cash No Credit by West by West) wasn't much higher. The rest were double digits. Champagne Tommie looked good in the paddock, and Hombre Oscuro (Valid Reprized - Miss Diana A by Cormorant) had some spring in his step. However, he was a big of a problem child at the load. The jockey hopped off, and in he went. Grunt (Proud Citizen - Voisey Bay by Crafty Prospector) and Champagne Tommie went for the early lead. Champagne Tommie stuck her head in front, but Lesson Learned was looming on the outside. He came rolling and pulled away for a 5 length win. Champagne Tommie was more than 3 lengths in front of the rest of them. Watch the Replay.

Lila Louann Runs Away

The track was fast, and the only scratch was AE Destiny Joy (Colony Light - Wavering Luna by Never Wavering). Lady Lak (Bluegrass Cat - Summerwood by Boston Harbor) took the early money, but Nice Cookie (Roar of the Tiger - Nasty Sabina by Sabona) was favored when they broke. Lady Lak was 4-1, and Pontine (Bluegrass Cat - Palmarola (ARG) by Kitwood) was almost 17-1. Nice Cookie looked good in the paddock. Lady Lak was a tad excited in the post parade, while Pontine was relaxed. My Gal Jenna (Black Mambo - Mighty Patriot by First Patriot) made a good impression on the track. A light rain was falling as they loaded. D'screamer (D'wildcat - Spicy Souffle by French Deputy) was a tad reluctant to load. Lila Louann broke on top, but Sultry Gibson (Gibson County - Sultry Peg Cee by Sultry Song) was right with her. Nice Cookie was just off these in third. Lila Louann continued on top, and began to move away. She increased her lead throughout, to take the race by 6 1/2 lengths. Nice Cookie motored by Sultry Gibson, but was no match for Lila Louann. Our fillies didn't get to do much running. Lady Lak clipped heels with D'screamer early on, and retreated after that, finishing 7th. Pontine didn't run much, beating only D'screamer, who dropped back after steadying. Lila Louann is the 5th winner for freshman sire With Distinction. Watch the Replay.
