Royal Eavesdropper Outshines Alta Boy and Red Road

The track was fast, and the only scratches were the AEs. Bob Bob's Boy (Concerto - Paisley Park by Notebook) was favored, and Pontification (With Distinction - Tchula Miss by Pentelicus) was also held in high regard. Alta Boy (Bluegrass Cat - Alta Love by Gone West) was 8-1, and Red Road (Bellamy Road - Red Cherries Spin by With Approval) was 25-1. I don't have too many comments on the prelims, as the feed from Charles Town was breaking up. Actually, it reminded me of the early days of watching races online (anyone remember those?), more like a slideshow. But, I digress. I did catch a glimpse of Alta Boy in the paddock, he looked pretty good. In the post parade, There's Andy (Peak Dancer - I'm a Cat by Just a Cat) acted up a bit, and his jockey came off. Stand Up Stan (Wiseman's Ferry - Niblett's Bluff by Mt. Livermore) and Rich Indeed (Rich Deeds - Dinner by Moonlite by Migrating Moon) broke best, but Royal Eavesdropper (Eavesdropper - Royal Actress by Mt. Livermore) took advantage of his rail position, and went by them to lead. Rich Indeed and Stand Up Stan chased him for a time. Bob Bob's Boy began to make a move, along with Pontification. Both of these were closing late, but Royal Eavesdropper held them off for the victory. Neither Alta Boy, nor Red Road had any early speed. Alta Boy passed a few to finish 6th, Red Road ended up 10th (last). Watch the Replay.

Andersonstate Survives at Calder

The track was fast, Gourmet Dinner (Trippi - Potluck Dinner by Pentelicus), This Saint Over (Sweetsouthernsaint - Star de Niro by De Niro), Exley (Officer - True Argument by Yes It's True), Conway Hillbilly (Montbrook - Pearly White by Holy Bull), and the AEs Damion E. T. (Whitney Tower - Pam's Pearl by Reverse Mulligan) and Uno Caliente (Macho Uno - Wild Warm Wind by End Sweep) were scratched. Longer Terms Doug (Rockport Harbor - Willa Joe (IRE) by El Gran Senor), who was adding blinkers, was favored at the first blink of the tote. He looked good as they exited the paddock. Also taking money was first-timer Private Person (Aldebaran - Beauty's Sake by Lyphard's Ridge). Andersonstate (Songandaprayer - Affairs of State by Deputy Minister) had some bounce in his step. Wicklow Royale (Chapel Royale - Rachele R's Angel by Thunder Gulch) caught my eye. Longer Terms Doug loaded first and was very unsettled in the gate. Then, he flipped and became lodged inside. He sprang free and ran off, and was finally captured in the corner. He was a late scratch. They reloaded the horses, and Private Person flipped in the gate. Both he and Mucho Macho Man (Macho Uno - Ponche de Leona by Ponche) were scratched. Thus a field that originally included 14, was reduced to 5. Andersonstate took the lead soon after the start, chased by Hal (First Tour - Mia's Fortunate by Fortunate Prospect). Motin (Congrats - Love To by Friendly Lover) was in third. Hal continued to chase Andersonstate, but couldn't gain. Andersonstate ended up winning by 3 3/4 lengths. Hal was another 6 1/4 lengths ahead of Motin. Hopefully, Longer Terms Doug is ok after his adventure. He may need a little gate schooling, after breaking slowly first time and his shenanigans this time. Watch the Replay.

Three-Year-Old Stakes Result

Havre de Grace (filly; Saint Liam - Easter Bunnette by Carson City) just got nipped at the wire by Blind Luck in the Delaware Oaks (gr. II) at Delaware Park. The difference was only a bob. Watching live, I really thought Havre de Grace had her. Blind Luck pulls out another one, but you can't fault the performance of Havre de Grace. She'll get her stakes win soon. Grade II stakes-placed Havre de Grace now has 2 wins, 2 seconds, and 1 third in 5 starts, with earnings of $140,175. Watch the Replay. Read more about the Delaware Oaks here.
