Gambling Geraldine was a Safe Bet

The only scratch was Page by Page (Read the Footnotes - Trixie Chick by Favorite Trick), part of an entry with Brownsteins (A. P. Warrior - Buddy's Bird by Buddy). The track was fast. Gambling Geraldine (Wildcat Heir - Afleet Closer by Afleet) opened up at even money, and went down from there. Harbor Chimes (Rockport Harbor - Piano Chimes by Chimes Band) was 50-1, but she made a good impression in the paddock and had some spring in her step on the track. I liked the look of Lady Maureen (Desert Warrior - Movin Along by D'Accord). The load was pretty smooth. They all started well, except for Harbor Chimes, who was very slow to leave the gate. She trailed the rest of them by double-digits early. Breaking for the lead was favorite Gambling Geraldine, chased by Lady Maureen. Gambling Geraldine began to pull away. She went on to win by better than 12 lengths, despite being extremely green late. Lady Maureen secured second over Brownsteins, who was well clear of the rest. Harbor Chimes ended up where she started, in last, but I thought it was quite an accomplishment that she was only a nose from 6th. Watch the Replay.

This Cats On Fire

There were no scratches, and the track was fast. Knock Out Princess (Sir Shackleton - R and R's Lady by Reality and Reason), by first-crop sire Sir Shackleton, was favored. Also well-respected at the windows was Harlan Trace (Elusive Hour - Harlan Cat by Harlan), who was third in her only start. Primp (Bernardini - Runway Model by Petionville) took some action at 5-1. Victoria Drive (Seize the Day - Carriage Drive by Pillager) broke on top, but was soon overtaken by This Cats On Fire (Fire Blitz - Crafty Tears by Crafty Friend). Primp was up with the leading group. Ammo's Pic (Full Mandate - Thumbprint of God by Piccolino) bobbled at the start and trailed. This Cats on Fire continued to lead, as Harlan Trace moved into second. Primp was 4th at this point. Knock Out Princess, who had been green early, began to make up some ground. She was really motoring late, and got all of the way into second, but couldn't catch This Cats On Fire. There were three fillies battling for third, Sweet Tia (Borrego - Tia Marquetry by Marquetry) won that one. Primp tired to 6th. Interesting that first-crop sires were responsible for second (Sir Shackleton) and third (Borrego). Watch the Replay.
