A Warrior Leads Them

There were no scratches. A Z Warrior (Bernardini - Carson Jen by Carson City) opened up at 4-5. Her odds went up a bit before post time, but she was still the clear favorite as they broke from the gate. Rigoletta (Concerto - Almost Aprom Queen by Montbrook) looked good in the paddock, and Royal Ancestry (Distorted Humor - Horns Gray by Pass the Tab) had some bounce in her step. Sky Angel (Sky Mesa - Quiet Optimism by Deputy Minister) was a little rambunctious on the track. A Z Warrior looked a little anxious in the post parade, but settled down after warming up. She was a little stubborn at the load, needing some persuasion. The start was good. There was a little bit of a scramble for early position. A Z Warrior came up the rail to grab the top spot, but Indian Gracey (Indian Ocean - Miz Betty Grace by Matty G) was sticking right with her. Those two pulled away from the rest of the field. In the stretch, A Z Warrior began to draw clear from Indian Gracey, and she secured a 1 1/2 length victory. She is winner number one for Bernardini. She is also the 5th winner from 5 starters for her dam, Carson Jen. Watch the Replay.

Sovereign Default Quenches his Thirst

The track was good and there were no scratches. Stay Thirsty (Bernardini - Marozia by Storm Bird) was favored, Scoville (Bernardini - Chili Cat by Storm Cat) was 5-1. Sovereign Default (Northern Afleet - She Is Raging by Aggressive Chief) also took some of the bettors attention at 5-2. Stay Thirsty looked good in the paddock, Scoville was a little reluctant to move on to the track. Nuckser (Summinitup - Tower of the Winds by Is It True), the only entrant with experience, looked like he knew what was up as the post parade began. Stay Thirsty continued to make a good impression as they warmed up. He did need a little push into the gate. The start was decent, Scoville set the early pace. He was chased by Sovereign Default and Stay Thirsty. Sovereign Default made his move, pulled even with Scoville, and then began drawing away. Scoville began to weaken. Stay Thirsty chased Sovereign Default home, but he could get no closer than 2 lengths. However, Stay Thirsty was over 10 lengths better than third-place finisher Punster. Scoville tired to fourth. Sovereign Default looked very professional in that win. And he looked like he was just starting to kick into gear nearing the wire.

A Z Warrior looked hella' good in her debut yesterday so we might see her @ Saratoga next,I know Zayat loves running his horses there. But,then again who doesn't right.

Is it true her dam's first 5 runners ALL won there debut?..amazing if it's true.

Carlos - I heard Kurt Hoover say that about A Z Warrior's siblings all winning their debuts, but it isn't true. J Z Warrior was a winner in her second start. However, 4 out of 5 debut winners is still pretty good.

I would say Saratoga is a good bet for A Z Warrior to run.

Pretty good indeed.

I was looking at Bernardini's 2yos' pedigrees,man.. did he get spoiled or what.I expect big things from this 1st crop of his, especially as 3yo's & older.I wish Wilburn had different handlers to steer him towards the Classics though.Someone who's more adept in getting them to the Derby than Assmussen. He's a big, beautiful colt.
