Joey is Right

The track was muddy (sealed), and Cousin Frankie (Fire Slam - Queen Josephine by Phone Trick) was scratched. Favoritism volleyed between the only one with experience, D' Sauvage (D' wildcat - Tres Chaud by French Deputy), and Never Right Joey (Tapit - Backwoods Teacher by Woodman), with D' Sauvage the slight choice at post time. Bristol Harbour (Rockport Harbor - Anclote by Twining) was 16-1. I kind of liked the look of Tall Tale Teller (Friends Lake - For Money by Not For Love). Crafty Concorde (Crafty Friend - V for Vera by Concorde's Tune) had some pep as they went to the track. Bristol Harbour made a favorable first impression. Crafty Concorde loaded sans jockey, Tall Tale Teller got a shove into the gate. There was a big scramble for the early lead, Tall Tale Teller checked out of it, and D' Sauvage was off slowly. Private Rules (Peace Rules - Private Port by Sea Salute) and Never Right Joey battled for a time, but Private Rules couldn't keep up. D' Sauvage, who was rushed up after his slow start, engaged Never Right Joey and those 2 dueled. But, Never Right Joey soon put away his rival, and pulled away for a 4 3/4 length victory. Tall Tale Teller recovered from his early trouble to finish a respectable third. Crafty Concorde and Bristol Harbour collided on the backstretch, and finished 7th and 8th. Watch the Replay.

A Sweet Deal to Win

Eleven ran, as Royal Marque (Chapel Royal - Papier Mache by Marquetry) was scratched. Stolen Kiss (Cat Thief - Dashing Girl by Eastern Echo) was the early choice, but Carcava's Hunt (Dove Hunt - Carcava by Gulch) was favored at post time. She looked good strolling by in the paddock. Runbellamyrun (Bellamy Road - Byebyebabybyebye by Glitterman) went off at 4-1. Lady Finvarra (Five Star Day - Finvarra by Valid Expectations) looked a tad on edge. There was a lot of greeness on display in the post parade. Lady Finvarra, Wind Kissed (Value Plus - Late Date by High Yield), and Carcava's Hunt went for the early lead, and Lady Finvarra got it. Runbellamyrun was in a good spot in 4th. Sweet Deal to Win (Impeachment - Deputy Jill by Silver Deputy) was off slowly. In the stretch, I'ma Rockin Bull (Holy Bull - Brac Drifter by Carson City) was making a move, but clipped heels when Lady Finvarra came over in front of her. I'ma Rockin Bull went down. Sweet Deal to Win came rolling on the outside to get by everyone for a 2 length victory. Runbellamyrun won the photo for second over Lady Finvarra, and Ranaway Yankee (Yankee Gentleman - Ranaway by Cryptoclearance) gained some late for fourth. After a stewards inquiry, Lady Finvarra was disqualified from third and placed last for interfering with I'ma Rockin Bull. Watch the Replay.

A Decisive Moment

The track was labeled good, and there were no scratches. Grande Shores (Black Mambo - Sexy Stockings by Tabasco Cat), the half brother to Jackson Bend, was the even-money choice. Longer Terms Doug (Rockport Harbor - Willa Joe (IRE) by El Gran Senor) was 6-1, down from a morning line of 15-1. He looked calm. Grande Shores made a good appearance in the paddock and on the track. The Waco Kid (Mass Media - Trick by Phone Trick) balked at the load, and was off slowly. Hal (First Tour - Mia's Fortunate by Fortunate Prospect) went to the lead, pressed by Decisive Moment (With Distinction - Lady Samira by Dehere). Not far off were Shankopotamus (Greatness - Glory and Faith by Honour and Glory) and Longer Terms Doug. Decisive Moment moved away from Hal, but the favorite was coming. Grande Shores looked as though he would zip on by, but Decisive Moment was tough. These two finished together, with Decisive Moment getting his 37-1 head in front. Decisive Moment is the 7th winner for freshman sire With Distinction, who had two other runners in the race: Rick the Bartender (With Distinction - Yira by Miner's Mark), who was 6th, and Strategic Defense (With Distinction - Bridal Glow by Runaway Groom), who was 9th. Burnin to the Winner's Circle

The track was fast. Hurri Up (Hurricane Center - Win for Marj by Piker) was an early scratch, April's Hope (It's No Joke - April Honors by Honor Grades) was a late scratch. Blue 'Em Away (Bluegrass Cat - Alcina by Kingmambo) was the heavy favorite, although U R Burnin Daylite (Pomeroy - Burning Season by Crafty Prospector) got some respect as well. He looked good in the paddock. Blue 'Em Away was bouncing in the post parade. U R Burning Daylite broke on top, but Storm's Battle (Storm Victory - At the Ball by Bold Laddie) came up the inside to grab the lead. U R Burnin Daylite stuck close. Blue 'Em Away was sitting in third. In the stretch, U R Burnin Daylite took over, pulling away for a 2 1/4 length victory. Gotatigerbythetail (Hold That Tiger - Our Freya by Skip Away) was motoring late to pick up second, while Storm's Battle held third over Blue 'Em Away. U R Burnin Daylite is the fifth winner for freshman sire Pomeroy.
