This Sky Has No Limit

There were no scratches in the 6 horse race, and the track was fast. Sky Hosoya (Bluegrass Cat - T. K. O. Lady by Two Punch) was the heavy favorite, less than even money. Better Safe (Safe in the U S A - Timely Expression by Timely Out) was a little rambunctious warming up, R Bling (Sky Mesa - Jewels N Gems by Acceptable) was looking good. Sky Hosoya looked ready for action. The load was fairly uneventful, although Kisses From Karen (Chief Seattle - Senita Lane by Ascot Knight) needed a push. Siren's Step (Act of Duty - Skip's Stiletto by Skip Trial) stumbled at the start, and Kisses From Karen was off slowly. Taking to the lead was Sky Hosoya. She was soon lengths clear of the pack. The closest pursuer was R Bling, who was far from the rest. Sky Hosoya continued to lead into the stretch, pulling farther and farther in front. The winning margin was 9 3/4 lengths. Tensas Punch (War Front - Indy Punch by Pulling Punches) did some running late to pull into second, and R Bling hung around for third. Sky Hosoya is the 9th winner for Bluegrass Cat. Powhatan County Overtakes Peb

The turf was firm. Nacho Business (Rahy - Palaestra by Atticus) was scratched, allowing Uncle Joe (Tapit - Chic Thief by Cat Thief) did get in off of the AE list. The other AEs and the MTOs were out. System Ready (More Than Ready - Patty Seattle by Chief Seattle) was a late scratch. Turf experienced Uncle Joe took the early action at the windows, but Mr Tribute (El Corredor - Amandas Bandit by Royal Academy), the only other horse with turf experience, was favored at post time. Peb Hughes (Henny Hughes - Race Artist by Mr. Prospector) was respected at 4-1. He was looking good in the paddock. Mr Tribute warmed up nicely, and Powhatan County (Fusaichi Pegasus - Franscat by Stormin Fever) caught my eye. He protested a little at the load. Uncle Joe jumped up at the start and trailed. Mr Tribute, Peb Hughes, and Br. Alexander (Maria's Mon - Miss Hellie by A. P. Indy) were at the front. Peb Hughes got to the lead, but he had to work for it. He continued to show the way, with Br. Alexander pressing. The lead began to diminish into the stretch. Joining the fray from off the pace was Powhatan County, who went by everyone for the win. Br. Alexander held second over Mr Tribute, and Peb Hughes tired to 4th. Not a bad effort for Peb Hughes, who just got a little tired. Not surprising, since he was stretching out from 5 furlongs to 1 1/16 miles. Watch the Replay.

Hey U Winner

The only scratch was AE Be Cool Lori (Formal Dinner - Pyrite Romance by Spinning World). Hey U (Great Pyramid (IRE) - Willa by Mountain Cat) was everyone's pick, opening at 1-2 and settling close to even money. Princess Lucy (Bellamy Road - Miss Lucy by Woodman) took some action at 5-1. She made a decent appearance in the paddock. Will's Presence (Will's Way - Timely Presence by Unaccounted For) had to be backed out of the gate with the jockey off, but he was soon back ready to go. A Shot and a Mint (Congrats - Hope of Nations by Two Punch) showed some reluctance to load. Desafinado Bay (Consolidator - Protostar by Procida) broke on top, but Hey U came up the inside to grab the lead. Desafinado Bay assumed a chasing position. Princess Lucy was bumped at the start, and was at the back. Desafinado Bay made a run at Hey U, but went way wide on the turn. Hey U continued to hold her off and finished a half of a length in front. Happy Minstral (Southern Image - Minstrel Zone by Winthrop) showed some interest late to pick up third. Princess Lucy beat one to finish 9th. Interestingly, the superfecta was filled entirely by experienced runners. This experience probably helped them manipulate the tight turns of Charles Town (even though Desafinado Bay went wide). Watch the Replay.
