Bernardinis at Saratoga and Much More

News and Notes

The 6th race at Saratoga was a mile and a sixteenth contest on the turf for 2-year-old fillies with a field full of nice looking fillies. The winner was Arch Support (Arch - Two Ninety Jones by Sir Harry Lewis), who went all the way on the lead. But, finishing strong were Mayday Maria (Maria's Mon - Boston Express by Boston Harbor) on the inside, who I thought looked best in the prelims, and Believe in A. P. (A. P. Indy - I Believe in You by Pleasant Tap) on the outside. I think all three are worth keeping an eye on. Watch the Replay.

Letshootpool while Eden Is Burning

Harbor Chimes (Rockport Harbor - Piano Chimes by Chimes Band) was scratched, along with Encryption Code (Lemon Drop Kid - Cryptocari by Cryptoclearance) and MTO Spa City Lover (Not For Love - Queen St. West by Smarten). AE Silky Me (Freud - Jovial Charade by Jovial Turn) drew into the race. The turf was firm. Letshootpool (Freud - Unbridled Cyclone by Judge T C) was favored at 3-2 early, and took more money as post time approached, going off at 4-5. I couldn't fault her on looks. Ravingaboutkitten (Kitten's Joy - Raving by Dynaformer) looked good heading to the track, and Thunder Jewel (Thunder Gulch - Dizzy by Spinning World) caught my eye. Lucky Leslie (Read the Footnotes - Tuesday Edition by Gold Alert) was not happy at the load, and went in sans jockey. Eden Is Burning (Hook and Ladder - Perfect Design by Marquetry) broke best and took command early. Letshootpool assumed a chasing position. Letshootpool went wide on the turn, but kept on coming, and she nipped Eden Is Burning at the wire. Blond Halo (Star Dabbler - Blondz Away by Skip Away) was motoring late into third, and may benefit from some additional distance. Thunder Jewel put in a nice move, but couldn't sustain it and stalled at fourth. Watch the Replay.

Major Duomo is one that i have been watching for a while and have high hopes for him.  I think he will be a big winner in the battle of the bernardini's.

I love reading about the offspring of new sires, but it sure would be nice to hear about the offspring of nice mares like Ashado, Dreaming of Anna, Stellar Jane, Panty Raid etc. were posted.

Many thanks, looking forward to the Bernardini's as well as the Jim Dandy, probably the best prep race of the year...

Theysken's Theory, a half to Stevie Wonderboy, broke her maiden by 5 lengths at Newmarket. I listened to the race on the internet and it sounds like she was very impressive- really quickened nicely.  She's nominated to a group 1 in September, so obviously she's well-thought of.

I hope either of the two Bernardinis win today, but they'll probably need a race.

Betsy - Yes, Theysken's Theory was pretty impressive. She was prominent from the beginning and then really poured it on late.

Oh, thanks for confirmation of the impression I got from the radio. I still won't forgive Godolphin for not running Bernardini at 4, but I'm so excited about his babies.  I really want to see Zannazi brought to America. She's a half to Speightstown - hardly bred for turf - and should do well on dirt.

I have to google Theysken, lol - I have no idea who he is!

White Rhino (Rockport Harbor) worked an incredible 5/8ths at Saratoga this morning...after going the first 3/8ths in 35 and change, his workmate blew the turn and forced him into the middle of the track.  The workmate opened up 4 lengths at the 3/16ths pole only to have Rhino run him down and hit the line 5 lengths in front in 1:00.2 (3/23)...what a nice 2yo colt.
