Two-Year-Old Results

The day started out on a high note, as Theyskens' Theory (filly; Bernardini - Heat Lightning by Summer Squall) broke her maiden impressively at Newmarket. She was prominent from the start, and then really poured it on late, winning by 5 lengths. She is the second winner for Bernardini. Watch the Replay. View Race Details.

Final, It's Time for Champagne

There were no scratches in the 7 horse race, and the track was fast. Champagne Tommie (Henny Hughes - Champagne Sunset by Gulch) was favored at the windows. Victoria Drive (Seize the Day - Carriage Drive by Pillager), who was second choice, looked good going to the track. Champagne Tommie went to the post sans pony. One Nice Roanoke (One Nice Cat - Virginia Witch by Roanoke) balked a bit at the load. Champagne Tommie broke well, but she didn't want the lead. Passionate Shopper (Trippi - Passionate Terri by Unzipped) went to the front, pressed by Storm On Bye (Woke Up Dreamin - Pete n' Pete by A. P. Indy). Victoria Drive made a nice move on the rail to take the lead in the stretch. But, Champagne Tommie was coming on the outside. She wore down Victoria Drive and pulled away for a 1 3/4 length win. Victoria Drive was better than 10 lengths ahead of the rest. Champagne Tommie is winner number two for Henny Hughes. Watch the Replay.

No Need to Settle

There were no scratches and the track was fast. Astrology (A. P. Indy - Quiet Eclipse by Quiet American) was favored, despite the fact that A. P. Indy has sired no debut winners at less than 6 furlongs at Saratoga. Volcker (War Front - La Pascua (SWI) by Caerleon), one of 2 experienced horses in the race, was also respected at the windows. Arthur's Tale (Bernardini - Owsley by Harlan) was 10-1, and Major Duomo (Bernardini - Karis Makaw by Charismatic) was 14-1. Astrology made a good appearance, and Major Duomo had some spring in his step. Liondrive (Lion Tamer - Outta the Park by Grand Slam) was a little reluctant at the load. The start was pretty fair. Volcker broke on top, but Astrology joined him up front. Major Duomo was third early, and Arthur's Tale was mid-pack. Volcker and Astrology continued to duel into the stretch. But, they were both passed by Settle for Medal (Medallist - Rehear by Coronado's Quest), who came motoring from off the pace. Volcker outfinished Astrology for second. Arthur's Tale ran evenly to finish 5th. Major Duomo weakened to last. In this 10 horse race, there were 2 experienced runners and they finished 1-2 for a nice $126.00 exacta. Watch the Replay.

Racintothefinish

Only the AEs were scratched, and the track was fast. Pontification (With Distinction - Tchula Miss by Pentelicus) was favored, taking a lot of late money to go off near even money. Red Road (Bellamy Road - Red Cherries Spin by With Approval) was 23-1. Nice Ainit (Shaniko - La Diabla by Devil's Bag) caught my eye, Volcanic Ocean (Indian Ocean - Volcanic Fury by Groomstick) looked a little on edge, and Pontification looked good warming up. Red Road got off to a good start, Ol' Man Murph (Lion Hearted - Favorite Brew by Favorite Trick) went to the front. Racinforthefinish (Peak Dancer - Faithwillbrewarded by Songandprayer) took up the chase in second. Pontification was just off these two. Racinforthefinish put in a run in the stretch, and Ol' Man Murph couldn't keep him at bay. Racinforthefinish pulled away for a 3 1/2 length victory. Ol' Man Murph held second over Pontification. Red Road tired, finishing 8th. Watch the Replay.

Twosteps Closer to the Win

There were no scratches, and the track was fast. First-timer Der Meister (Out of Place - Bronze Glow by Devil's Bag) was hammered at the windows early, 2-5 at first tick. But, the entry of Parkersdoubledots (Double Honor - Clarabella by Claramount) and Twosteps Closer (Closing Argument - Diablo's Madam by Diablo) was favored at post time. Alta Boy (Bluegrass Cat - Alta Love by Gone West) was almost 25-1. Our Hae (Smoke Glacken - Hereafter by Dehere) looked good in the paddock, Parkersdoubledots was on edge. Alta Boy had some pep in the post parade. Der Meister broke on top and set the early pace. Twosteps Closer set after him. They continued in these positions into the stretch, but Twosteps Closer was getting closer. He got up at the wire to seize the victory by a neck. These two were 7 lengths free of the rest. Alta Boy was wide throughout and weakened to finish 8th. Watch the Replay.
