Tanzana Overpowers Lord Hennyson

The track was fast, and the only scratch was Golden Ron (Golden Missile - Reign of Tara by Beau Genius). Tanzana (Freefourinternet - Likely Suspect by Siphon (BRZ)) was favored, but Lord Hennyson (Henny Hughes - Ran for the Dough by Bertrando) was respected as well, going off at just a tick below 5-2. Among the first-timers, Stake Out (Mutakddim - Braggin Rights by Iroquois Park) received the most attention from the bettors. There was an abbreviated post parade on account of inclement weather. I'm not sure if there was a storm approaching or if they meant the heat. It was a sweltering night. Favorite Tanzana looked good on the track. Smart Alex's Posse (Afleet Alex - Sheriff's Posse by Silver Deputy) warmed up nicely, and Lord Hennyson looked ready to go. Stake Out was a little stubborn at the load. Tanzana outbroke the field, but Expecting Cash (Littleexpectations - Chenoa by Wild Again) came up the inside to join him. Lord Hennyson had a good position in third. Smart Alex's Posse, like many of the Afleet Alexes, broke slowly and was at the back. Tanzana and Expecting Cash battled for a time, then Tanzana pulled free from his rival. I thought that Lord Hennyson was in a perfect position, and it looked for a moment as if he would get by Tanzana. But, Tanzana had a lot left in the tank, drawing off to win by 7 lengths. Interesting that the exacta was made up of the only 2 horses who came into the race with experience. Watch the Replay.

Lamasaas (colt; Henny Hughes - Quick Feet by Dynaformer) finished second in a 6 furlong Maiden race at Pontefract on turf labeled good. He was left at the break, and seemed a bit rank while joining the fray. He made a move to get into second, but couldn't catch The Mellor Fella (GB) (Compton Place (GB) - Grande Terre (IRE) by Grand Lodge). Lamasaas was making his second start, after finishing 6th at 6 furlongs at Ffos Las on July 20. Thanks to K. Rob for alerting me to this result. View Race Details. Watch Replay.

It will be interesting to see if Henny can do anything in the mud, more likely one of the Speightstowns though...
