Hitting it on the Button
The turf was firm, and the only scratch was MTO Valiant Passion (Lion Heart - Bold American by Quiet American). The entry of Elusive Tara (Elusive Quality - Lenatareese by Broad Brush) and Forest Whip (Forestry - Swigert by Fusaichi Pegasus) was favored. Blueveau (Bluegrass Cat - Slewveau by Slew o' Gold) wasn't given much chance at 43-1. Aguadilla (Stormy Atlantic - Amelia by Dixieland Band), the half sister to Kindergarten Kid, caught my eye. Also looking good in the paddock was Button Girl (Mizzen Mast - Jangada by Raft). Street Mate (Street Cry (IRE) - Day Mate by Dayjur) was late to join the post parade. She was on the muscle when she finally stepped onto the track. Dixie Julep (Hennessy - Turning Point by Rahy) looked good in the warm-up. Street Mate and Forest Whip balked at the load, and Dixie Julep got a shove in. Button Girl took the lead, with Pretty Tune (Concorde's Tune - Uppa Hughie by Secret Prince) and Forest Whip the closest pursuers. Blueveau was near the back, ahead of only Dixie Julep, who bobbled after the start. Elusive Tara made a nice move to get into second, but she couldn't gain on Button Girl, who got the victory by 2 1/2 lengths. Niji's Grand Girl (Candy Ride (ARG) - Rose Russe by Nijinsky II) made up ground late to take the show spot. Blueveau passed some to finish 5th. Watch the Replay.
