Kantharos Blue Right By

Wetzel (Successful Appeal - Lady Carmen by Yankee Victor) and Sovereign Default (Northern Afleet - She Is Raging by Aggressive Chief) were scratched, leaving four to battle in the mud in the Saratoga Special. Kantharos (Lion Heart - Contessa Halo by Southern Halo) opened at 1-9 and pretty much stayed there. Blue Right By (Bluegrass Cat - Shades of Grace by Seeking the Gold) was almost 14-1. Bail Out the Cat (Tale of the Cat - Golden Gazelle by Meadowlake) looked good in the prelims, but you couldn't fault the appearance of the favorite. Bail Out the Cat was a little stubborn at the load. Blue Right By jumped to the early lead, but he had to run a fast quarter, :22.25. Bail Out the Cat and Kantharos were second and third, and moved together to overtake Blue Right By. Bail Out the Cat stayed with Kantharos for a moment, but then bang, Kantharos was gone. He crossed the wire 7 1/4 lengths in front. Bail Out the Cat was another 11 3/4 lengths clear of debuting Manchurian High (The Daddy - Corredor's Wind by El Corredor), who is now grade II stakes-placed. Blue Right By tired after his early activity, bringing up the rear in fourth. Watch the Replay. Read more about the Saratoga Special here.

Maria's Luck Catches Thatagirl

Status Pending (Tale of the Cat - Party Chatter by Pleasant Colony) and Deja Blu (Seeking the Gold - Purrfectly by Storm Cat) were scratched, and the track was muddy. Thatagirl (Henny Hughes - Miss Bridget Jones by Peaks and Valleys) was favored. But also taking money were Hurricane Barb (Proud Accolade - Clandestine by Grand Slam), Tea Party Gal (Friends Lake - Radcliffe Yard by Boston Harbor), and Nolita (Strong Contender - Halo Miss America by Jolie's Halo). Tea Party Gal looked good in the paddock. Thatagirl, who was adding blinkers, made a favorable impression on the track. Maria's Luck (Halo's Image - Marchella by King of Kings (IRE)) got a strong warm-up. Thatagirl acted up a bit at the load, but she broke on top. She was soon several lengths clear of the field. Tea Party Gal and Nolita were the closest pursuers. Thatagirl continued to lead into the stretch, running off the rail, but she was slowing down. Making a serious move was Maria's Luck. She swept by Thatagirl for the victory. However, it was a much improved effort for 2nd-place Thatagirl. Watch the Replay.
