Gold Pearl (colt; Henny Hughes - Gold Pattern by Slew o' Gold) broke well in the Gimcrack Stakes (Eng-II), and was in good position early, but then began to retreat. He beat 2 to finish 9th. The winner was Approve (IRE) (Oasis Dream (GB) - Wyola by Sadler's Wells), who overtook Crown Prosecutor (IRE) (Exceed And Excel (AUS) by Miss Brief (IRE)) late. Sir Reginald (GB) (Compton Place (GB) - Clincher Club by Polish Patriot) ran on well for third. Favorite Temple Meads (GB) (Avonbridge (GB) - Harryana (GB) by Efisio (GB)) was fourth.
