No Withdrawal

There were no scratches. The entry of Cobalt Cat (Bluegrass Cat - Afternoon Dreams by Afternoon Deelites) and Withdrawal (El Corredor - Touchnow by Pleasant Tap) was favored. Colleton Gardens (Unbridled's Song - Appleby Gardens by A. P. Indy) made a favorable impression in the paddock. Withdrawal was adding blinkers, and looked good on the track. Debuting Pure Blue (Purge - Nice Kitty Kitty by Forest Wildcat) was an impressive size. Withdrawal went to the lead, but was running a bit off the rail. Get There (Dixie Union - Get Set by Rahy) was in pursuit. Cobalt Cat was close up early, but dropped back a bit. Pure Blue was in a little tight at the rail. Justice Is Served (Dehere - Brave Boco by Crafty Prospector) moved into the picture after a half, and Cobalt Cat started to come to life. Withdrawal continued to lead. Justice Is Served seemed to be getting to him, but Withdrawal had something left and picked up the victory by 1/2 length. Justice Is Served was another 4 lengths in front of Cobalt Cat. Air Strike

All eight ran. Hurricane Harbor (Rockport Harbor - Sweet Sixteen by Montbrook) took all the early action, but the post-time favorite was Thunder of Zion (Quick Action - The Mendoza Line by Ayman). Hurricane Harbor was a respectable 3-1. He looked good strolling by in the paddock. Thunder of Zion was showing some spunk, as the rider got aboard. Airwar (Slew of Angels - Falmora by Falstaff) had the look of a sprinter. First-timer Valley Station (Silver Train - Run Rayma Run by Langfuhr) was a little wild in the post parade. Hurricane Harbor warmed up nicely. Goalie (Larry the Legend - Ruler of Men by Cutlass Reality) was left at the break. There was a scramble up front, and Airwar emerged with the lead. Valley Station chased him for a time, then Thunder of Zion entered the fray on the inside. Airway edged away from him, however, scoring a 1 1/4 length victory. Yodelmeister (Swiss Yodeler - Yodelin Lora by Bertrando) was going well late to pick up third. Despite the Swish Yodeler, I think this one wants to go farther. Hurricane Harbor raced wide and didn't have much impact, finishing 6th. Things can only improve, 4 furlongs goes by real fast.

The track was fast. Ali's Included (Include - Rebonah by Peruvian) was scratched, allowing AE Bond's Babe (Johannesburg - Spy Novel by Broad Brush) to run. Bouquet Booth (Flower Alley - Toll Order by Loup Sauvage) was the even money choice. Bluegrass Dream (Bluegrass Cat - Dreambride by Unbridled's Song) was almost 13-1, but that was down from her morning line of 20. Badge of Eden (Badge of Silver - Ruckus Ridge by Bold Ruckus) was a little riled up. I liked the look of first-timer Stormy Story (Stormy Atlantic - Open Story by Open Forum). At the break, Downtown Daria (Sky Mesa - Hongkong Charley by Tour d'Or) took to the lead, with Whowhatwhy (Deputy Wild Cat - Form Four by Corporate Report) and Bond's Babe in pursuit. Bluegrass Dream was off slowly. Downtown Daria shook free from Whowhatwhy and Bond's Babe, but favorite Bouquet Booth was coming. She took a run at Downtown Daria, but that one was able to stay in front to win by a neck. Bouquet Booth was more than 8 lengths clear of third-place Stormy Story. Bluegrass Dream never got going after her slow start, finishing 10th (last). Watch the Replay.

An Official Win

The track was fast, and only AEs Road to Kintyre (Mull of Kintyre - Teeintheroad by Lil E. Tee) and On Z Run (Zavata - My Little Runaway by Runaway Groom) were scratched. Officially (Officer - Shepherd's Moon by Silver Hawk) was the heavy favorite, Jamin Justice (Rockport Harbor - Kiwi Sunshine by Java Gold) was almost 15-1. She is a tall leggy thing, would appear to need some distance. I liked the look of Littlemisschoochoo (Silver Train - Share the Fun by Deputy Minister) and My Flashy Teton (Teton Forest - Flashy I. D. by Caller I. D.). Ten Spot (Tenpins - Beauty Spots by Leo Castelli) looked good warming up. My Flashy Teton loaded sans jockey. The start was rather bumpy, Officially grabbed the lead. My Flashy Teton, Littlemisschoochoo, Virginia and Tonic (The Cliff's Edge - Shinivar by Marquetry), and Ten Spot were chasing. Jaimin Justice was at the back of the pack. Officially pulled away, as Littlemisschoochoo continued to chase. On the scene late was Down On Copperline (Mutakddim - Viewy by Majestic Light). She made a dent in the lead, but couldn't catch Officially. Dr Megann (Lion Heart - Congratulating by Luhuk) made up some ground to finish third, as Littlemisschoochoo faded to fourth. Jamin Justice made a decent middle move, but retreated and finished 6th. Fernando De La Cruz, rider of Littlemisschoochoo, lodged a claim of foul against the winner. It did seem as though Officially wiped out Littlemisschoochoo at the break, but the claim was disallowed after some study. This was a roughly run race all around, lots of green horses out there. I love the chart notes, "Start: Good for all except 2, 3, 4, 7. Watch the Replay.

Other Two-Year-Old Results

Runbellamyrun (filly; Bellamy Road - Byebyebabybyebye by Glitterman) finished 2nd for the 4th time in 5 starts in her Maiden Claiming race at Turfway Park. They were defeated by the only debuter in the race, the wonderfully named Joy in Mudville (Kitten's Joy - Itsallaboutamanda by Thunder Gulch), who ironically took to the Polytrack, closing stoutly for the victory. Red Road (gelding; Bellamy Road - Red Cherries Spin by With Approval) was up close early in his Maiden Claiming race at Charles Town, but faded to 5th. A Bernardini winning first out would always surprise me; I wish Break up the Game had a better post.

I read an article from back in February that discussed some of Bernardini's 2 year olds. 2 colts mentioned were Live Oaks' To Honor and Serve and Gallant Dreams. To Honor and Serve looks like he's got a ton of potential and now I'm excited to see how Gallant Dreams does (and Opening Move, of course). I'd prefer this to be a 7 furlong race, but oh well..........

Another Bernardini, Jaridh, makes his debut at Wolverhampton in England today. His dam is a half to successfull sire Cape Cross.

Break up the Game has been scratched.........due to the post maybe?

Man, Opening Move is FAST. He shot out of the gate like a cannon and dueled the Pletcher horse into defeat. He got tired and succumbed to Justin Phillip, but make no mistake - this is a very talented horse.

Jaridh is another running Bernardini. He just missed winning against a heavy favorite, but he was closing like a shot and just missed by what I think is a nose.

Rockin Heat ran a bang up second in the Summer Stakes today! He swept right by Pluck after the wire; I can't wait till he stretches out. Maybe Bear Stables will try the Juvenile Turf with him?

The Lukas firster "Cat Tale" at DP closed like a freight train to pass the two favorites near the line and paid $42.00 to win, wish I had followed my insticts with breeding and trainer for this race, I did earlier with a Zito horse that went off at 6-1 and at least hit that one!

Cat Tale looks like he can and wants to go longer....watch? Don
