News and Notes

Able Bellamy (Bellamy Road - Double Entendre by Double Negative) was a late scratch from race 2 at Belmont on September 19. The winner was Our Brave Warrior (First Samurai - Midway Gal by Midway Circle), who took the lead from the break and won by 4 3/4 lengths. He is winner number 8 for First Samurai. Watch the Replay.

Plattsburgh (colt; Bernardini - Saranac Lake by Smart Strike) and Flodden (colt; Henny Hughes - Dundrummin' by Gone West) finished 3rd and 6th in a mile race on the All-Weather surface at Kempton. They both got off to a slow start. Watch Replay (It is the Steljes, Technology With Purpose E.b.f. Maiden Stakes). View Race Details.

Stakes Result

As in his debut, Wealthy Aviator (colt; Henny Hughes - Jera by Jeblar) was off slowly in the Barretts Juvenile Stakes at Fairplex, but he closed nicely on the rail finishing third, just missing second by a neck. The winner was favorite Clubhouse Ride (Candy Ride (ARG) - Seeking Results by (Seeking the Gold), who made a bold move early, and then cruised to a 2 1/4 length victory. Wealthy Aviator is the first stakes-placed performer for Henny Hughes.

Mucho Macho Win

Serendipper Moon (Malibu Moon - Sweet Serendipity by Salt Lake) and AE entrant West Birch (Gone West - Greathearted by Giant's Causeway) were scratched. The track was fast. Mucho Macho Man (Macho Uno - Ponche de Leona by Ponche) was the heavy favorite. Bellamy's Boss (Bellamy Road - Divine Shadow by Capote) went off at 12-1, but he took some early action. He looked good, but I really liked the look of Tapizar (Tapit - Winning Call by Deputy Minister). At the break, Tapizar went to his nose, and Elvis Trujillo hit the deck. Riderless Tapizar zipped up the inside and passed everyone. He then disappeared from view (for a time). Amongst those still in the race, Hope for Today (Flatter - Morning in Seattle by Seattle Dancer) took the lead. Mucho Macho Man was stalking, along with Bellamy's Boss. Mucho Macho Man made his move on the turn, hitting the front. Bellamy's Boss stuck with him for awhile, but Mucho Macho Man pulled away to win by 4. Still a nice effort from Bellamy's Boss, who was much improved over his debut. Bred and owned by Kinsman Stable, Bellamy's Boss may be a fitting tribute for the boss George Steinbrenner. Tapizar ended up in the third position, just ahead of Bowman's Causeway (Giant's Causeway - Victory Encounter by Victory Speech), who was officially third. Tapizar's performance was the best for a riderless horse since Gander in the 2002 Saratoga Breeders' Cup. Gander finished second in the Woodward in his next start. Something to think about. Watch the Replay.

Wyomia Showing the Winning Move

There were no scratches. The bettors had trouble deciding on a favorite, finally settling on Grisaille (El Prado (IRE) - Dress to Impress by Formal Gold). Ice Crystal (Henny Hughes - Seek by Devil's Bag) was 24-1. She looked good at first glimpse. I was liking Charismatically (Cozzene - Just Like a Woman by Charismatic), and Grisaille looked good as they headed to the track. Honestly, this was a very nice looking field. Good Lady (Good Reward - Lady Kilkeelan by Lil's Lad) was off to a tardy start, and trailed the field. Ice Crystal trailed the rest, 2 lengths in front of Good Lady. There was a battle up front for the lead, Need to Know (Aragorn (IRE) - Nani Rose by Peteski) and Pleasantfriday (Pleasant Tap - Ruby Friday by Distinctive Pro) were the first to show, but then Wyomia (Vindication - Beyond the Sun by Kingmambo) spurted free. Charismatically, Lisvernane (Arch - Owenahincha by Distant View), and Grisaille took up the chase, but there was no catching Wyomia. She took the win by 5 1/4 lengths. Good Lady did well to finish 5th after her late start, and Ice Crystal ended up 6th.Watch the Replay.

Holidays At Belmont

The only scratch was AE Litigating (Point Given - Mediation (IRE) by Caerleon), the turf was good. Dynamic Holiday (Harlan's Holiday - Dynamic Cat by Dynaformer) was favored, and looked good on the track. But I especially liked Holidaysatthefarm (Smarty Jones - Qualatative by Woodman). Runninglikeanangel (Rockport Harbor - Rosthern by Broad Brush) was 22-1. Dixie Dear (Dixie Union - Seattle Weekend by A. P. Indy) was a little agitated. Globe Trot (A. P. Indy - Trip by Lord At War (ARG)) was squeezed at the start, and trailed. War Clan (War Front - Ashley's Clan by Seattle Slew) went to the lead, with Triune (E Dubai - Triple Act by Theatrical (IRE)) in pursuit. These two continued to battle into the stretch. But, Holidaysatthefarm was looming on the outside. She moved even with War Clan, as Triune retreated. Holidaysatthefarm then outfinished War Clan to win by a neck. First-timer Allure d'Amour (Giant's Causeway - Salut d' Amour (IRE) by Danehill Dancer (IRE)) looked good late, taking third. Runninglikeanangel didn't show much, finishing 8th. Watch the Replay.

Dudley Code for Victory

The track was wet fast. Rocky's Quest (Rockport Harbor - Silver Echo by Eastern Echo) was favored. He looked good in the paddock. But, Rainier Missile (Golden Missile - Gaslight Gossip by Woodman) really caught my eye. Codys a Bobcat (Posse - Touriga by Friendly Lover) was getting a little agitated. Showme Yourfriends (Delineator - Raise a Moon by Chisos) was loaded sans jockey. Rainier Missile hopped at the start, and Rocky's Quest started slowly. Code Dudley (City Zip - Video Starlet by Bertrando) led the way, chased by Murray the Cop (Tapit - Storming Way by Summer Squall). Codys a Bobcat was just off of these. Code Dudley spurted away to a 3 length lead. Showme Yourfriends cut into the lead late, but Code Dudley had plenty left for the win. Rocky's Quest made progress through the stretch, but could get no closer than fourth. Watch the Replay.

Abbie Knowles

Hi,

Love the name Tapizar!!!!  Will look out for him!  He sounds like a very good horse!  Hope that Elvis Trujillo was ok though.

Thanks for this.  Will read it properly later.  My concentration is poor at the moment!

God Bless

Best wishes

Abbie - Elvis rode the rest of the card, so I think he was ok. Tapizar was definitely my paddock pick in that race, so I'm interested to see what he does next time. Hopefully, the rider will stay aboard.

Have you seen any of the Aragorns?  He's a horse I like and I know that some of his 2 year olds have had success.
