Jakesam Getsem

There were no scratches in the five horse field. Just Imagine (Unbridled's Song - Fantasy Lake by Salt Lake) was favored, and Minutesandtouches (Rockport Harbor - Flexible Princess by Honor and Glory) was 3-1. There was a bit of a scramble at the start, but Jakesam (Smoke Glacken - Deputy Sarah by Deputy Commander) soon emerged with the lead. He was pursued by Just Imagine. Minutesandtouches had to steady in the first turn, and was rank. But, he was in third, just behind the top two. In the stretch, Jakesam began to pull away from the pack. He went on to win by better than 6 lengths. Minutesandtouches couldn't quite get by Just Imagine, and had to settle for third. Watch the Replay.

Fortunately, race 5 at Belmont has been taken off the turf, so we will get to see To Honor and Serve. I adore all Bernardinis, but I think this colt is something special. I thought he ran a terrific race in his debut and said then that he was better than Astrology. Well, he still has to go out and prove it, but I believe he will.

I was rooting for this race to come off the turf - and am I glad it did. To Honor and Serve just coasted in this race - won by 8 and wasn't asked at all. Time? 1:43 and change, approximately the same time as Colizeo won his race. I said after his debut that he was better than Astrology .........and now I just think he's a very good colt (granted, not the greatest field)

Thanks, RockHardTen!

He is a nice looking colt - very long and lanky. He's in great hands - couldn't be in better.

Oddly, with Girolamo and Fly Down in big races today (and I adore both), this was the race I most wanted to win.
