News and Notes

Like last week, I'm not sure when I will next update the blog. However, I have previewed races for Sunday and Monday, so that should keep things rolling for awhile.

Two-Year-Old Results

Stakes Results

Bellamy Jones (colt; Bellamy Road - Kind Lena by Seneca Jones) went right to the front in the Indiana Futurity and, as the cliche goes, improved his position from there, romping in the mud. The official margin was 11 1/2 lengths. He is the third stakes winner for Bellamy Road. Watch the Replay.

My Bellamy (filly; Bellamy Road - Holiday Rates by Concorde's Tune) finished third in the Miss Indiana Stakes run in the mud at Hoosier Park, behind her entrymate Perfectly Candid (Pleasantly Perfect - Candor by Crafty Prospector). Watch the Replay.

Hysterical Cat (Bluegrass Cat - Then She Laughs by Distorted Humor) was no match for Bug Juice (Mingun - Twilight Empress by Twilight Agenda), who won the New York Breeders' Futurity at Finger Lakes by 10 lengths. However, Hysterical Cat was best of the rest, finishing second.

An Honor to Serve

The race was taken off of the turf and run at a mile and a sixteenth on the fast main track. Because of this, Bluegrass Jet (Bluegrass Cat - License Free by Miswaki) was scratched. However, MTO To Honor and Serve (Bernardini - Pilfer by Deputy Minister) drew into the race, and he was favored. Also scratched were Shine Box (Tapit - Chapskick by Hansel), Film Making (Storm Cat - Film Maker by Dynaformer), Mister Pippit (Tapit - Miss Pine Top Az by Wolf Power (SAF)), East Indies (Orientate - Classy Assets by Jade Hunter), and Gold Trader (Johannesburg - Educated Risk by Mr. Prospector). To Honor and Serve looked good strolling in the paddock. Willy Pay (Broken Vow - Sanctified by Holy Bull) had some bounce in his step on the track, and Dr. Tom G (Broken Vow - Lelander by Cherokee Run) caught my eye. Fair Whit (Birdstone - Slew Smarts by Seattle Slew) was a little reluctant to load. Admiral Perry (First Samurai - Western Humor by Gone West) and To Honor and Serve went for the early lead, but Dr. Tom G came up the inside to grab the top spot. To Honor and Serve assumed a stalking position. He moved even with Dr. Tom G, and then zoomed on by. He went on to win by an easy 8 3/4 lengths. I Love It (Fusaichi Pegasus - Classic Approval by With Approval) ran well late to pick second, and Iwannaiwannaiwanna (Whywhywhy - She's a Traveler by Theatrical (IRE)) took third over a tiring Dr. Tom G. To Honor and Serve is winner number 6 for Bernardini. Watch the Replay.

Halo Thunders by Statehood

The only scratch was Souped Up Fast (Alphabet Soup - Color Me Fast by Marquetry). Eric's Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Mrs. K. by Dixieland Band) was favored, and Statehood (Bluegrass Cat - Heavenly Humor by Distorted Humor) was almost 8-1. He had some spring on the track. Halo's Thunder (Thunder Gulch - Her Halo by Saint Ballado) unseated his rider, but didn't get away and was quickly remounted. He seemed to calm down after this. Palace Causeway (Aragorn (IRE) - Lu Lu's Lullaby by Palace Music) made a good impression. Fire Eater (Eurosilver - Septet by Dixieland Band) was warming up with lots of energy. He also unseated his rider, but was apprehended quickly. It must have been the cool weather that was making everyone frisky. Palace Causeway broke on top, but was unable to clear the field from his outside post. Scorcerer (Ballado's Devil - Gwynedd by Old Trieste) stumbled at the start, but was quickly involved. Also in the mix early were Halo's Thunder and Statehood. Statehood emerged from the pack to take the lead. Halo's Thunder was hanging around, and Fire Eater was getting involved. Halo's Thunder came through on the inside to take the victory over Statehood. Fire Eater was farther back in third. A nice debut win for Halo's Thunder, but it did look as though Statehood began to loaf once he took the lead. Watch the Replay.

Miss Dixie Halo Humors Them

The track was sloppy. Miss Mulligan (Milwaukee Brew - Miss Delia by Out of Place), Oh Carole (Unbridled's Song - Renowned Cat by Storm Cat), She Can Fly (Badge of Silver - Shake Down by Lord At War (ARG)), and Silky Sami (Margie's Wildcat - Satin Sami by Private Terms) were scratched. AE entrant Sing the Melody (Rahy - Baby Melody (ARG) by Roy) drew into the race. Elite Humor (Distorted Humor - Renaissance Lady by A. P. Indy) was the even money choice, and Hoosier Kitten (Bluegrass Cat - Brooklynsangel by Aggressive Chief) was 15-1. No one seemed to be in love with the mud, but Gator Blitz (Gone West - Summit Park by A. P. Indy) looked good. Miss Dixie Halo (Dixieland Band - Miss City Halo by Carson City) broke on top, but Elite Humor came through on the inside to grab the lead. Hoosier Kitten was at the back. Elite Humor and Miss Dixie Halo continued to mix it up, separating themselves from the rest of the field. Cat in the Bag (Tale of the Cat - Adam's Time by Gilded Time) made a bit of a move, but stalled in third. In the stretch, Miss Dixie Halo pulled away, taking the victory by 3 lengths. Hoosier Kitten didn't do much, finishing 8th (last). Watch the Replay.

To Honor and Serve was absolutely tremendous. I thought he was the best horse in his debut and he lived up to his potential yesterday. He's in great hands as well - what's not to love?

The Cotillion was a great race and congratulations to Harve de Grace and her connections for the win. But no one is mentioning that Blind Luck was carrying 124 pounds and the rest of the fillies wre only carrying 114 pounds. Amazing that she only lost by 1/2 a length.

Wow!  What a horse!  i did enjoy that!  To Honour and Serve just destroyed that good field and should be on target for the BC juvenile as well as all the top races next year!  I was willing him on vocally and loudly!  He can hear me of course!!!!!!!  I think Bill Mott may have another superstar at last!  And about time too!  He is a great trainer!

As Johnny V has many top horses to ride for Todd Pletcher I rather hope Bill Mott lets Julien Leparoux ride "Honor" and that they can form the same kind of partnership Jerry Bailey had with Cigar!

As you rightly say Betsy what's not to love?  "Honor" is an absolutely beautiful horse and is in very good hands.  Lets hope he proves himself to be a megastar!!!!

God bless

Best wishes

Abbie
