Stakes Result

Embellished (filly; Bellamy Road - Birthright by Belong to Me) finished first in the Freedom of the City Stakes at Northlands Park, but was disqualified for interfering with Spirited Winner (Singletary - Spirited Jaclyn by Native Prospector) in the stretch and placed third. The official winner was Caliente Roja (Captain Bodgit - April Red by Explosive Red). It was a tough break for Embellished. She was definitely coming out in the stretch, but I don't think that either Spirited Winner or Caliente Roja were going to get by her.

Summer Catches the Boy

The turf was labeled good. Wildcat Formation (Forest Wildcat - Autumn Moon by Mr. Prospector) was scratched, as well as AE entrants Saladin (Lion Heart - Shires Reflection by El Prado (IRE)) and Unbridled Tune (Songandaprayer - Frenchglen by Forestry) Summer in Giza (Great Pyramid (IRE) - Summer Dance by Sword Dance (IRE)) was favored, and Alta Boy (Bluegrass Cat - Alta Love by Gone West) was almost 42-1. He looked good, however, in the prelims. It was a good start. Alta Boy went right to the lead, but he had company in the form of D D's Buddy (Rock Slide - Vaulted by Allen's Prospect). Those two separated from the rest of the field. Alta Boy finally pulled away from D D's Buddy in the stretch, but favorite Summer in Giza was looming. He drove to the lead, but Alta Boy was game and hung in there. Summer in Giza bested Alta Boy by just a head at the wire. Making up good ground late was first-timer Mystical Terp (Lion Hearted - Mystical Tap by Pleasant Tap), who should benefit for next time. It was a much improved effort from Alta Boy, who seems to have figured things out. Watch the Replay.

I wish Stay Thirsty was trained and owned by other people. He's being treated like he's a cast-off, entered as insurance for their prized Uncle Mo. He should be running in the Dover stakes at Delaware today, not training up to the BC. I love this horse, but he has no shot in that race coming off of a 2 month layoff and a 7 furlong race. Todd must have lost his mind.

On a  happy note, Biondetti won his race to remain undefeated. No details are available yet, but he sure is a nice horse.

You could say Bernardini had a good day; AZ Warrior just won the Frizette impressively. I always thought she'd improve on the dirt.
