Last weekend for WEG. I have previews for Sunday and Monday below, hopefully that will cover things until I'm back online.

Stakes Results

Biondetti (colt; Bernardini - Lyphard's Delta by Lyphard) is now a perfect 3 for 3, after his victory in the group I mile Gran Criterium at San Siro in Italy. He was reserved off the pace early, and then made his move with a couple of furlongs left. He then held off a challenge from the filly Singapore Lilly (IRE) (Mujadil - Swallow Falls (IRE) by Lake Coniston (IRE)) to become the first group I winner for Bernardini. Read more about the Gran Criterium here.

Several hours later, A Z Warrior (filly; Bernardini - Carson Jen by Carson City) became the second grade/group I winner for Bernardini, with a sharp win in the Frizette (gr. I) at Belmont Park. She sat off the pacesetter Coax Liberty early, and then went to the lead after 6 furlongs. She spurted away to establish a 4 length lead. She was geared down late, which allowed R Heat Lightning to gain, but A Z Warrior was never in any danger of behind caught. She certainly seemed to accelerate better on the dirt, and it's on to the Breeders' Cup. Watch the Replay. Read more about the Frizette here.

As predicted, Stay Thirsty (colt; Bernardini - Marozia by Storm Bird) was scratched from the Champagne (gr. I) at Belmont Park. The winner was his stablemate, Uncle Mo (Indian Charlie - Playa Maya by Arch), who won by an easy 4 lengths. Watch the Replay. Read more about the Champagne here.

Making a Getaway

Eye for an Eye (Good Reward - Mauk One Eye by French Deputy) was scratched. R Fast Cat (Bluegrass Cat - R Fast Lady by Artax) was favored. Castalio (Giacomo - Wacissa by Boundary) had a lot of energy in the paddock, and Ismael Grande (Hennessy - This Is Crazy (AUS) by Nureyev) caught my eye. Hondo Scores (Vindication - Candybedandy by Holy Bull) was a high-stepper in the post parade. He broke on top, and established a clear lead. Getaway Guy (Yankee Gentleman - Kamaal by Irgun) took up the chase. R Fast Cat wasn't far off, but was wide. Hondo Scores and Getaway Guy remained 1-2, with R Fast Cat making up some ground. Getaway Guy began to gain on Hondo Scores. He moved even with that rival, and then went on by, getting the win by 3/4 length. R Fast Cat stalled in third. Interestingly, Getaway Guy's half brother Cave's Valley, was a winner on October 8 at Belmont. R Fast Cat was claimed out of the race. Watch the Replay.

You Better Believe in A. P.

Rockport Star (Rockport Harbor - Christmas Lights by Citidancer) was scratched, and the track was fast. Believe in A. P. (A. P. Indy - I Believe in You by Pleasant Tap) took most of the money at the windows, Moonshine Magic (Bluegrass Cat - Rhum by Go for Gin) was 5-1. She looked good in the paddock. Dopke Gal (Dance With Ravens - Larrupin Gal by Larrupin') was on her toes. However, favorite Believe in A. P. won the best looking in the post parade award. The load was pretty smooth. Mackerel Snapper (Lemon Drop Kid - Charitabledonation by Saint Ballado) was off a little slowly, while Hard Rock Candy (Wildcat Heir - D. D. Rocks by Tactical Advantage) shot to the lead. She quickly built up an 8 length advantage. However, she was rank on the front. Believe in A. P. and Moonshine Magic watched the pacesetter from second and third. Hard Rock Candy began to retreat after a half. Believe in A. P. easily caught her, and swept on by. She didn't stop there, pulling away to win by more than 12. Moonshine Magic lost second late, a nose behind Enhancing (Forestry - Heavenly Prize by Seeking the Gold) in third. Watch the Replay.

Thanks once more for this excellent and well researched piece!

BERNARDINI!!!!!

Absolutely thrilled by the Group/Grade 1 wins for Biondetti and A Z Warrior!  Beautiful horses both and they are in very good hands.  They both look to have talent to spare and I will be watching their careers with great interest and praying that they stay sound and well!

BELIEVE IN AP  (I do believe in A P Indy - very much so!) sounds to be very promising too and it will be exciting following her career!

As for Jaridh it sounded like he raced with the choke out!  But Godolphin are experts at teaching horses to settle and am sure he will be winning good races - next season if not this!

What a day for Bernardini and A P Indy!!!!   Plus Vindication had a great winner called Wyomia too!

Seattle Slew rules ok!

God Bless

Best wishes to all the Bloodhorse team and their blog site community.

Abbie, what is a choke out?

I don't get why they changed tactics with Jaridh; he did fine closing first time out, so why send him to the lead?

Yeah, Vindication is having a terrific year with his 2yos.  I think that's at least 4 2yo stakes winners this year, and several look like they could be very nice horses.  Maybe he'll posthumously fulfill some of his promise.

Abbie, I agree 100 % ! I have been a Bernardini fan since I've ever laid eyes on him ! He is a champion , superb runner , and now a first class sire !! I wish him continued success :)

Betsy - to race with the choke out - means to go flat out from the start and hence have nothing left for the closing stages!  I suspect the jockey could not stop Jaridh and that the colt may have got over excited.  He is only a baby after all.  Hope that Frankie Dettori rides him next time and expect that they will work on teaching him to settle at home.  Poet's Voice and Echo of Light are/were two tearaways who Godolphin taught to settle and win big races!  So hopefully it will be the same with Jaridh!

Vindication was always a favourite of mine so hope Wyomia or one of the others does prove to be a Champion!

Bernardini is such a strikingly handsome horse isn't he?  I think he may not have raced at 2 himself so the early success for his 2 y o's is very encouraging indeed.  Bernardini's sons and daughters should be even better at 3, 4 and please God 5 and 6 if they remain sound and in love with racing!  Zenyatta has shown what 6 year olds can achieve!

As Darley say in their TDN advert for Bernardini - "Go Bambinis go!"

God Bless you all

Best wishes

Nice to see Bluegrass Cat's offspring doing so well. He was a favorite of mine when he raced.

Blue Laser's race in the Grey Stakes was wonderful.

Abbie, thanks! Silly colt, lol. He's got talent and thinking about how his sire improved as he matured, it's very encouraging for Jaridh and the other Bernardinis that they are doing so well.

I am still bitter that they retired Bernardini before he showed what he could do at age 4.

Fort Hughes was very impressive and beat a couple of others who might be any kind quite easily. NYRA gave him his own page: www.nyra.com/.../FortHughes.html

mainetraduh - Not sure what horse database you are referring to, but Blindsidehit (Bluegrass Cat - Heart Lake by Unbridled) is an unraced 2yo Bluegrass Cat filly that has been working at Woodbine.
