The Garden Spot

Mason Dixon Line (Dixie Union - Above the Line by Easy Goer) and Bruce Springsteed (Fusaichi Pegasus - Big Bambu by Salt Lake) were scratched, leaving 10 to battle on the Polytrack. Cane Garden Bay (Rockport Harbor - Trav n' Kris by Snow Chief) was favored, and Bracket Buster (Henny Hughes - Code of Love by Cryptoclearance) was 6-1. This was a nice looking bunch. Holiday for Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Blue Holiday by Cure the Blues) was the first one that caught my eye. Cane Garden Bay looked good, and Derivative (Mr. Greeley - Erica's Smile by Williamstown) was ready for action. Prado Dash (El Prado (IRE) - Dash for Money by General Meeting) is a stunning gray. He was getting some play too, 13-1 down from his 20-1 morning line. The load was pretty smooth. Holiday for Kitten, Derivative, and Mavericking (Empire Maker - Ioya Two by Lord At War (ARG)) battled early. Cane Garden Bay and Bracket Buster bumped at start. Cane Garden Bay moved to mid-pack, and Bracket Buster was near the back. Derivative gave up the battle after a half. Holiday for Kitten took a clear lead, but Cane Garden Bay was coming. He wore down Holiday for Kitten for the victory. Gaining well late on the inside was Prado Dash, who took second. Holiday for Kitten held third. Bracket Buster picked up a few places to finish 5th. He may have been a bit rusty after his layoff. Cane Garden Bay is winner number 10 for Rockport Harbor. Watch the Replay.

The Tempest Hits Oklahoma

There were no scratches, as eight ran on the fast track. Texas Tempest (Bernardini - Copelan's Bid Gal by Copelan) was the focus of most of the bettors. Roma Jean (Bandini - Taylor's Wish by Dynaformer) was about the only other filly getting attention at the windows. Texas Tempest looked the part in the post parade. Alabama Wildcat (Forest Wildcat - Sweet Alabama by Kris S.) warmed up nicely. She went to the lead along with Roma Jean. Those two fillies separated from the rest of the field, which was led by Texas Tempest. Roma Jean and Alabama Wildcat were a good 6 lengths ahead of the others. Roma Jean pulled away for a clear lead over Alabama Wildcat, but Texas Tempest was moving in third. Roma Jean held sway for a time, but she was no match for the relentless pursuit of Texas Tempest, who went by for the win. Texas Tempest, who was the first North American starter for Bernardini back on July 4, is his 7th winner. Watch the Replay.
