The Allure of Winning

The turf was yielding. From the main field, Heyna (Strong Contender - Capote Ann by Capote) was scratched. Also scratched were the AEs and MTOs, including Gharbiah (Bernardini - Cuando Quiere by Affirmed). Allure d'Amour (Giant's Causeway - Salut d' Amour (IRE) by Danehill Dancer (IRE)) was the heavy favorite, with War Clan (War Front - Ashley's Clan by Seattle Slew) virtually the only other filly taking money. Wear Red (Henny Hughes - Aldebaran Light by Seattle Slew) was 18-1. She made a decent appearance on the track. War Clan looked ready for action. Roly Poly Goalie (Fusaichi Pegasus - Comanche Star by Saint Ballado) was a little reluctant to load, and Allure d'Amour acted up behind the gate. There was a scramble for the early lead. War Clan took it, but Allure d'Amour went right after her. Inflation Hedge (Badge of Silver - Royal Veagess by Rock Royalty) and Mount Holiday (Eddington - Mt. Kobla by Mt. Livermore) were also close up. Wear Red secured a nice spot in 5th on the rail. There was little change in the order through the first 6 furlongs. Allure d'Amour moved up to War Clan, and then spurted away. War Clan pretty much stopped at that point, she ended up 7th. Mount Holiday secured second, and Celestial Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Heavenly Glory by Honour and Glory) made a nice run late to take third. Wear Red didn't have the answer when the real running began, finishing 6th. Watch the Replay.

Michelle Gets the Trip, Joyous Music Runs Wild

The turf was good, and only the AEs were scratched. High On Kitten (Kitten's Joy - High Chant by War Chant) was the slight favorite over Michelle's Trip (Trippi - Flit About by Fly So Free). Joyous Music (Bellamy Road - Pyrite Queen by Wavering Monarch) was respected at 5-1. El Bendinat (El Corredor - Key West Appeal by Valid Appeal) looked good in the post parade. Michelle's Trip had a lot of energy. Joyous Music looked ready, maybe a little too ready. There was some bumping at the start. Joyous Music sprang out of the gate and was soon 12 in front. That is not a misprint, she was soon 12 in front. But, it was soon apparent that Joyous Music was not so much running, as running wild. She had a huge lead, but was going way too fast (:22.46) and was headed for the far rail. The field began to catch her, led by El Bendinat. Joyous Music was pulled up. Among those still in the race, El Bendinat took the lead. High On Kitten and Evil Queen (Hear No Evil - Duchess d'Or by Tour d'Or) were in pursuit. El Bendinat shook free from them, but Michelle's Trip was coming. She flew by for the victory. Hopefully, they will find away to control Joyous Music, who definitely has some talent. Watch the Replay.

A Bayou Party

There were no scratches, as all 12 ran. The field was evenly split between 6 debuters and 6 experienced runners. Don't Tell Sophia (Congaree - Lost Expectations by Valid Expectations) was the tepid favorite at post time. Blueveau (Bluegrass Cat - Slewveau by Slew o' Gold) was 11-1. I liked the look of Guiding Force (Pulpit - Dynamic by Dynaformer) and Pearl Girl (Najran - Pearl E by En Tete). Guiding Force took the early lead, but Taradduf (Forestry - Teeba by Seeking the Gold) was right with her. Most of the pack was within a couple of lengths, including Withgreatpleasure (Hold That Tiger - Doubleyourpleasure by Double Negative), Lady Aspen (Grand Reward - Candace in Aspen by Woodman), Pearl Girl, and Bayou Tortuga (Empire Maker - Tortuga Band by Dixieland Band). Guiding Force continued to hold a slight lead, but he was soon overtaken by Withgreatpleasure. Her lead, however, was short-lived, as Lady Aspen, Don't Tell Sophia, and Bayou Tortuga all went by late. Bayou Tortuga was moving best, and took the win by 1 1/4 lengths. Blueveau settled in a good spot, but didn't make much of a run, finishing 8th. Watch the Replay.

Shining at Woodbine

The AEs were scratched, and 12 ran on the firm turf. Don Dulce (Maria's Mon - Sweet Eloise by Sky Classic) was the lukewarm favorite, with Moonshine Mullin (Albert the Great - Mullen Road by Distant View) also well-respected. Harbor Front (Rockport Harbor - Cat Lea by Cat Thief) was 22-1. First-timers Circus (Grand Slam - Woolloomooloo by Regal Intention) and Stunning Split (Awesome Again - Split the Arrow by Smart Strike) looked good to me. Colleton Gardens (Unbridled's Song - Appleby Gardens by A. P. Indy) was on his toes in the post parade. Harbor Front made a good appearance, and Stunning Split got a nice warm-up. Stunning Split broke on top, but was soon overtaken by Oh Boy (Perigee Moon - Oh Dear by Sea Wall). Moonshine Mullin and Call for Silver (Badge of Silver - Bacall by Alysheba) were up close as well. Harbor Front broke well, and wasn't far off the pace, but he was wide due to his 12 post. Oh Boy sprinted away to lead by several lengths. In the stretch, both Moonshine Mullin and Sir McIntyre (Mull of Kintyre - Serena's Lady by Prized) began to reel him in. Moonshine Mullin went by for the victory. Sir McIntyre's progress was hampered by his drifting out. He did straighten out late to grab second from Oh Boy. Harbor Front weakened and finished 11th, hampered by his wide run early.
