J W Blues By Them

There were no scratches in the 7 horse race, and the track was wet fast. Jaeger (Indian Charlie - The Church Lady by Valid Wager) was favored by a tick over Sunday Punch (Rockport Harbor - Our Dear Ruth by Baldski). Sunday went straight to the lead, but Malibu Marine (Malibu Moon - Marina de Chavon by Exploit) and Raging Wild Fire (Smoke Glacken - Frozen Crown by It's Freezing) went with him. Raging Wild Fire soon fell back, but Malibu Marine kept after Sunday Punch. Those two soon separated from the pack. Malibu Marine got the best of Sunday Punch, who was racing a bit greenly, in the stretch. However, they were both passed by J W Blue (Sky Mesa - Kentucky Storm by Dynaformer), who went by everyone for a sharp win. Watch the Replay.

Comique Leaves Em Laughing

Compline (Hold for Gold - Bright 'n Early by Northern Jove) and Grace Alley (Flower Alley - Heart of Grace by Exploit) were scratched. The track was wet fast. Nicky's Way (First Samurai - Bunting by Private Account) was favored. Bryan's Jewel (Rockport Harbor - Saphiria by Touch Gold) was 2-1, and she looked good in the prelims. Comique (Distorted Humor - Corrazona by El Gran Senor) broke on top, but she was passed Bryan's Jewel, who set the early pace. Comique and Nicky's Way were close up on the slow pace. Longshot Kawaii Kat (Two Puinch - Kiati by Waquoit) rushed up to grab a short lead, and then just as suddenly dropped back. Turns out her saddle slipped, and she was eventually eased. Comique took a short lead in the stretch. Bryan's Jewel hung in there for a while, but began to give way. Nicky's Way made a try at the finish, but came up a neck short. Watch the Replay.

Cedar Grove Finds a Groove

Only the MTOs were scratched, and the turf was good. Timuquana (Smart Strike - Midway Squall by Storm Bird) took most of the money, while Thatagirl (Henny Hughes - Miss Bridget Jones by Peaks and Valleys) was ignored at 30-1. Timuquana looked good on the track, Cedar Grove (Speightstown - Serenita (ARG) by Southern Halo) was on her toes. The break was fairly even. Thatagirl came up the hedge to grab a short lead. Not far behind were debuting Scenario Analysis (Exchange Rate - Thimble Island by Kissin Kris) and Timuquana. Thatagirl continued to lead, but couldn't shake free from her competition. Scenario Analysis took a short lead, but the closers were coming. Moving best of all was Cedar Grove, who came 5-wide to sweep by for a nice victory. Miss Dora (Albert the Great - Damage by Housebuster) was also rallying, and took second. Scenario Analysis held third. Thatagirl weakened to 6th, but it was not a bad effort. Watch the Replay.

Four to go in this contest at Keeneland: Look West (Bluegrass Cat - Twirlaway by Unbridled), Hellcat Senior (Bluegrass Cat - On the Fritz by Mahogany Hall), and Percussion (Bluegrass Cat - Cradlesong by Pine Bluff) by Bluegrass Cat; and Knows How to Rock (Rockport Harbor - Unchained Princess by Clever Trick) by Rockport Harbor. All four are unraced. Seems like last time we had four in the same race, none hit the board. Let's hope for better results this time. Two of her offspring won at 2, including Unchained Storm, who was a debut winner at 2, and was also a stakes winner that season. Rockport Harbor's 48 runners have made 108 combined starts, recording 12 wins, 9 seconds, 16 thirds, and earnings of $442,169.

Mr. Popps (Fusaichi Pegasus - Westlake by Honour and Glory) has run three times, and finished 2nd three times, at 5.5 furlongs at Ellis Park on July 31, at 5.5 furlongs on the Ellis Park turf on August 28, and at 6 furlongs at Hoosier Park on September 19. Wowie Zowie, JW Blue at DP, just watched the replay, what a late staggering move forthat track, bam/zoom to the moon Alice..I like that did not expect, one to watch. The times seem as good if not better than two 2yr stakes there past few weeks, Dover and Blue Hen, goona watch this one...Sunday Punch my hunch, no go, he is a Speedster so far and gets tired, should stay a short sprinter I would say, but who knows...Don't wantto go on too much about JW but is late move reminded me of DP horse over 10 years ago who Steve Haskin was high on in the Derby Watch that year, Scottish Halo, who closed like a freight train there and E-base guy always rememebers that move...he was owned by Oxley and just couldn't move on as a 3-4yr old, was hopinghe would be a good stud, but haven't heard.was a NY bred andwon Empire Classic that year...He was one ofthe reason I started getting excited bout racing, baring Secretariat of course, ha ha ha, good flick, saw last Friday. Don - Your comments bring up a good point. One day, when I get a slow day, I should ask everyone to list the most impressive 2yo maiden breaking performances that they've seen. I'd have to think about it, but Ubiquity is right up there. He broke his maiden at Turfway in 1999 like he would be something special. Missed his entire 3yo season, but came back to win the Clark at 4.

For Bernardini fans, exciting news! It appears that Theyskens' Theory, a 3/4 sister to Stevie Wonderboy, is pointing for the BC Juvenile Fillies. She's very good on turf, but sure is bred for dirt.
