Ridge Kitten Romp

Only the AE entries, Joyous Music (Bellamy Road - Pyrite Queen by Wavering Monarch) and Star Reward (Good Reward - Apt to Star by Aptitude) were scratched. Joyous Music is entered at Calder on Saturday (see below). My Other Girl (Bernardini - Guilty Pleasure by Pine Bluff) was favored. Chicago Nights (Trippi - Sky Ravenal by Sky Classic) was a little flighty. I was liking Ridge Kitten (Monsieur Cat - Nizy by Cox's Ridge), who wasn't getting much love from the public (8-1). My Other Girl balked a bit at the load. Nicola's Charm (Wildcat Heir - Samantha's Charm by Montbrook) reared at the gate, rider hopped off. All was soon under control and she was in. The break was pretty fair. Broadway Marquee (Put It Back - Reflected Image by Farma Way) went to the lead, with Do It Baby (Hennessy - Caroca by Theatrical (IRE)) and Susans Strong Hope (Strong Hope - Im Out First by Allen's Prospect) her closest pursuers. My Other Girl kept her rail spot, and was in a good position. Ridge Kitten began to make progress. She stuck her head in front in the stretch, and then drew off. The winning margin was three lengths. Broadway Marquee just held second over Chicago Nights, who was moving late. My Other Girl was a little erratic down the stretch, trying to run up on the heels of her opponents and otherwise behaving greenly. I'll give her another shot. Since she was favored going in, there must have been some buzz out about her. Watch the Replay.

Sea Level Drives

Giant Sensation (Giant's Causeway - Sensation by Dixie Union) and Eden Star (Eddington - Exploding Star by Exploit) were scratched, leaving a field of 10. Sea Level Drive (Malibu Moon - Rose Frances by Crafty Prospector) was favored at post time, but Pelago (More Than Ready - Alya by Deputy Minister) also garnered plenty of respect. Drumette (Henny Hughes - Endless Parade by Williamstown) was a little cold at 7-1. Sea Level Drive was on the muscle in the paddock. Pelago looked ready. Drumette got a nice warm-up, while Miss Euphoria (Aragorn (IRE) - Miss Audrey by Grand Slam) acted up a bit. So Tempted (Broken Vow - Raffles Light by Gulch) was a little stubborn at the load. From her behavior in the prelims, I thought that Sea Level Drive would go to the front, but Julien Leparoux was able to get her to sit off the pace set by Pelago. Drumette was in a good position, not far off the pace. Sea Level Drive wanted to go, go, go. But, Julien made her wait a little more. Pelago was still in front, but she was weaving a bit. Sea Level Drive moved by, to win by 2 lengths. Classy Touch (Maria's Mon - Flute by Seattle Slew) showed some late interest to take third. Drumette tired to finish 7th, not a bad effort after the layoff. Watch the Replay.

Northern Miss (filly; Bellamy Road - Varus by Vicar) dueled for the early lead in race 1 at Woodbine, a 6.5 furlong Maiden Claiming race. She then pulled away to lead by open lengths. Her margin was reduced late, but she had plenty left to become Ballamy Road's 10th winner. Watch the Replay.

Real Rockport (filly; Rockport Harbor - Newhall Road by Dixieland Band) dueled for the early lead in race 2 at Oak Tree at Hollywood Park, a 6 furlong Maiden Claiming race, but was passed by a bunch of closers in the stretch, and finished fifth. Watch the Replay.

Buffum ran a really nice race to just hold off the 2nd place finisher. He made a very strong move to the lead, showing a fine turn of foot, and was game to the end.  Winning at a mile in your debut is not easy.............nice horse

Royal Delta's dam is a 3/4 sister to Biondetti. I still think he should go in the BC Juvy turf as he's got a better shot to win, but perhaps Godolphin is thinking of him as a Derby candidate and they want to see how he handles the dirt. Well today wouldn't have dissuaded them. On the other hand, if they want to make  Bernardini the leading first crop sire, Biondetti should run on the turf.
