News and Notes

I am working on a Year in Review for MaidenWatch that hopefully will be posted before the end of the year, but for now a post to catch up on results missed and to preview a couple of entries for December 30. We had two winners during my absence: Enchante (filly; Bluegrass Cat - Wear by Arch) and Wear Red (filly; Henny Hughes - Aldebaran Light by Seattle Slew), both on December 26 at Tampa Bay Downs. More on their races (and the others) below.

I apologize for not previewing the two Maiden Special Weights from Fair Grounds featuring August High (Rockport Harbor) and Lumberyard Jack (Bellamy Road). Their entries got buried in my email, and I only found them this morning. The information about their races is listed under Other Entries, and I will recap their efforts.

Many thanks, you've been missed! Scares me that a maiden like The Factor went 106 4/5ths for 6 furlongs. Speed figures from that new surface will need several grains of salt to blend with the rest of the US...

Thanks for the kind words.

Don - It took Wear Red awhile to come around, but remember she's half to Eskendereya. Lots of potential there.

Jaycee - I'm not sure what to make yet of the performances/times on the new track at Santa Anita. Mostly favorites and mostly speed. The Factor looked impressive, but 1:06.98 is a little unreal. I see they went 1:07.91 in a $50k MCL race yesterday.

Nice that the blog is back

I think that the Factor is for real and has a great pedigree - I bet he will give Uncle Mo a lot of competition next year.

Also War Front has turned out to be a much better sire than some of the expected and over-hyped freshman sires.
