Counting on Arthur's Tale

Happy New Year to all, and Happy Birthday to all the Thoroughbreds out there. For now, things will pretty much remain the same at Maiden Watch, with the only difference being that our 2-year-olds are now 3. However, soon we'll have a whole new set of 2-year-olds. Keep sending in your suggestions for 2011 sires, and I'll assemble the poll some time next week.

December 31 Results

Not Just a Rumor

The track was fast, and Continetta (Bernstein - In the Will by Seeking the Gold) was scratched. Bauble Queen (Arch - Muneefa by Storm Cat) took the early money, but Blazing Along (Medaglia d'Oro - Valkyries' Ride by Dixieland Band) was favored at post time. Heidi Maria (Rockport Harbor - Third Street by Salt Lake) was double-digit odds. Hey Maria (Maria's Mon - Majority Whip by Gulch) had a lot of energy in the paddock, and Rumor (Indian Charlie - Mini Chat by Deputy Minister) made a good impression. Heidi Maria was restless in the gate (with Trevor's accent, I wasn't sure if he said Heidi Maria or Hey Maria, but of course it was our girl). She was backed out, and you could hear the phone ringing. She was a late scratch. Magicallytown (Speightstown - Beautiful Charm by Lil's Lad) and Rumor fought for the early lead. They were together for a half, but then Rumor began to pull away to clear lead. Bauble Queen came along late for second, but she was no match for Rumor, who took the win by 6 3/4 lengths. Blazing Along was along for third. Watch the Replay.

Tapping Out

Bluegrass Warrior (Bluegrass Cat - Awesome Humor by Distorted Humor) was scratched from the race, but I decided to recap it anyway, as I am pretty sure this was the last 2-year-old race of 2010. Biogio's Legend (Elusive Quality - Biogio's Rose by Polish Numbers) was favored, but Taptowne (Tapit - Holly's Wager by Valid Wager) was also respected. Unsaddled Glory (Belong to Me - Champagne N Glory by Miswaki) went for the early lead, but Taptowne was right with him. Night Party (Rahy - Revolutionary Act by Boston Harbor) was not far off in third. Taptowne took control in the stretch, and then moved farther and farther away. The final margin was 8 1/4 lengths. Night Party got by Unsaddled Glory to grab the place spot. Watch the Replay.
