Stakes Result

Arthur's Tale (Bernardini - Owsley by Harlan) finished fourth in the Count Fleet Stakes at Aqueduct. He seemed to be in a good spot early on, sitting off the speed of Pants On Fire, J J's Lucky Train, and Rush Now. But, it was Monzon (Thunder Gulch - Shadow of Mine by Belong to Me), who benefited from the duel up front, after lingering at the back early on. He sped by everyone for an easy one length win. It may have been an illusion caused by tiring horses, but it looked as though Arthur's Tale was running again at the end. He may need to grow up a bit before trying stakes company again. Watch the Replay. Read more about the Count Fleet here.

A Heavenly Win

Etudetogo (Badge of Silver - Design Queen by Wavering Monarch) was scratched, leaving 8 to run on the fast track. Kennedy (A.P. Indy - Lovely Regina by Deputy Minister) was the early choice, but Brush Creek (Strong Hope - Little Bold Belle by Silver Buck) was favored at post time. Celestial Fields (Bluegrass Cat - May Star by Unbridled) was respected at a tick below 7-2. He looked good strolling by in the paddock, but was a little rambunctious as they headed to the track. Kennedy looked good out there. The break was good for all except Luciano's Soul (Perfect Soul (IRE) - Lady Nadine (GB) by Alzao), who gave the others a head start. Celestial Fields headed to the front. He was tracked by Captain Twitch (Two Punch - Baste by Broad Brush). Then, Brush Creek moved into the picture, as Captain Twitch began to fall back. But, Celestial Fields continued on top. Brush Creek moved closer and closer as the winning line loomed, but Celestial Fields held him off, becoming our first winner of 2011. Brush Creek was a clear second over Balto More (Inner Harbour - Miss Rolla Punch by Two Punch), who made up some ground in the stretch. It was a long way back to Kennedy in fourth. Celestial Fields is a nice looking gray, and out of a full sister to Unbridled's Song, could be anything. Watch the Replay.

Zayda has his Day

There were no scratches in the 7 horse field, and the Tapeta was fast as usual. Grand Takeover (Grand Slam - Tizzazz by Tiznow) was favored, he caught my eye in the paddock. Zayda (Bluegrass Cat - Winter Solstice by Unbridled) was almost 11-1, but he looked decent. Forty Cts (Formal Gold - Marvelous by Huddle Up) was restless in the gate, as Zayda was reluctant to load. Ghost Reign (Ghostzapper - Reina Victoriosa (ARG) by Interprete) went to the lead. Formula Gold (Formal Gold - Pundit by Beau Genius) was close for a bit, but Ghost Reign scampered away. Zayda was sitting off the pace in fifth, but he looked good out there. The pack began to catch up to Ghost Reign. Zayda was on the outside, he drifted a bit, but had all the momentum. He swept to the lead and won by 2 1/4 lengths. He galloped out strong as well. Ghost Reign held off the rest for second, with Formula Gold taking third. Zayda had shown promise in his first two starts, but had been rather green. It was nice to see him put it all together. Two winners on the day for Bluegrass Cat, and both out of Unbridled mares. Watch the Replay.
