Starting a Kerfuffle

There were no scratches in the 7 horse race, and the track was fast. Kerfuffle (Henny Hughes - Stormy Blues by Cure the Blues) was favored throughout most of the wagering, but interest shifted to the Todd Pletcher trained first-timer Espresso Martini (Grand Slam - Espresso Song by Siphon (BRZ)) at post time. Kerfuffle looked decent on the track, Corleone (Indian Charlie - Fast an Sexy by Mining) warmed up nicely. The start was good. Espresso Martini emerged with the lead. She was chased by Corleone (Indian Charlie - Fast an Sexy by Mining) and Portside (Congrats - Port Isabel by Time to Explode). Kerfuffle was just off these, in fourth on the outside. Kerfuffle and Portside moved up to take on Espresso Martini. Kerfuffle powered to the lead, and then pulled away to a 2 length victory. Portside was up for second, and debuting Satilla Shores (Speightstown - North Lake Jane by Meadowlake) closed nicely to pick up third. Espresso Martini tired to fourth. Watch the Replay. As an aside, Kerfuffle has got to be one of the best names to say. Try working it into your conversations as much as possible.

Derby Kitten is Coming

Assimilation (Pleasantly Perfect - Exploivacious by Exploit) was scratched from the main field, allowing AE entrant Cooks Forest (War Chant - Lookin' Swell by Wild Rush) to draw in. The other AEs and the MTO were scratched. The turf was firm. Derby Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Blush by Menifee) was favored, Top Business (Bluegrass Cat - Dynamic Lady by Dynaformer) was respected at 5-1. In the paddock, Sandys Diamond (Roman Ruler - Ideal Image by Hennessy) bounded into the picture. He looked good to me. Classical Chant (War Chant - Great Buy by Smart Strike) was a tad reluctant to load. Hondo Scores (Vindication - Candybedandy by Holy Bull) sprinted to a several length lead. He was going pretty quick up there: :22.64, :45.69. Show Time (The Cliff's Edge - Halo Babe by Southern Halo) and Classical Chant were the nearest pursuers. Top Business was about mid-pack, and Sandys Diamond was off slowly, trailing the field. Derby Kitten began to make up ground on the rail. Classical Chant hit the front, but Derby Kitten was coming. He made the lead easily but swerved inward, causing Classical Chant to check. On the scene late was Sandys Diamond, who closed for second. Top Business picked up a couple of spots to finish fifth. There was a stewards' inquiry into the stretch run of the race. Derby Kitten was all over the place, but it was really hard for to tell on the replay whether he was clear. Apparently, the stewards deemed that he was, as there was no change in the running order. Watch the Replay. Derby Kitten is a full brother to 2009 Maiden Watch horse William's Kitten, so I feel like he's part of the family.

Pokey

For those that inquired about Lawyer Ron, he does indeed have many 2-year-olds for 2011. I have started seeking out his offspring. There were at least 20-25 (so far) listed in the Keeneland yearling sale alone (obviously, those yearlings are now "two-year"lings now). Please vote for Lawyer Ron - it will be exciting to follow his babies on the track!

The deceased Master Command is another first-crop stallion who's progeny would be interesting to follow this year.

I must have missed the results for the 7th race at Gulfstream yesterday but it was won by a very nice War Front filly, War Prospector, who went off at a huge

price. She led gate to wire.
