The Winning Chant

Gilded Charm (Gilded Time - Herdy's Charm by Mountain Cat) was scratched, which allowed AE entrant My Queen (Forestry - Midtown Miss by Yes It's True) to run. The other AEs were out. The turf was firm, and Celtic Chant (Songandaprayer - Currane by Gone West) was favored. She was coming into the race off a 2nd-place finish at 1 1/16 miles on the Tampa Bay Downs turf on December 15. Night Drive (Bernardini - Belle Nuit by Dr. Carter) was 11-1, and Littlegreatone (Bernardini - Megahertz (GB) by Pivotal (GB)) was 13-1. My Queen was a little reluctant to load, and then broke inward, smacking into Fantasy Girl (Langfuhr - Fairy Princess by Giant's Causeway). Despite this, My Queen went for the lead, along with Here in On (Omega Code - Herecomesacat by Storm Creek). Crystal Legacy (Giant's Causeway - Crystal Symphony by Red Ransom) and Celtic Chant were chasing the pacesetters. Littlegreatone was sitting off the pace, and Night Drive was about mid-pack. Here in On and My Queen continued to show the way, but Celtic Chant was getting closer. Also, Pretty Pleaser (Pleasant Tap - Lordy Lordy by Lord At War (ARG)) moved into the picture and Littlegreatone began to make up some ground. Celtic Chant got through on the inside, and pulled away for a 1 3/4 length win. Pretty Pleaser came along for second. Littlegreatone was running late to capture third, much improved over her debut. Night Drive ran an even race, clocking in at fifth. Watch the Replay.

An Artful Run

Only the AEs were scratched, and the turf was firm. Artful Run (Artie Schiller - Daintree by Regal Affair) was favored at 5-2, and he showed some spunk in the paddock. Father Hughes (Henny Hughes - Ms. Patty B. by Grey Dawn II) was almost 13-1, but he did take some early action. He made a good impression on the track. How About Tiznow (Tiznow - How About It by Halo's Image) was given a rousing warmup. Artful Run went to the lead, but Father Hughes went right after him. Chagu Mio (Trippi - Mystery Bay by Siphon (BRZ)) and Recipe (Aragorn (IRE) - Sugar Cookie by Pulpit) followed just behind the top pair. In the stretch, Artful Run pulled away from Father Hughes, as that one began to weaken. First-timer So Bold (Royal Academy - Boldest by Yallah (GB)) made a good run late to reduce Artful Run's advantage, but the latter horse was 1 3/4 lengths ahead at the wire. Chagu Mio stuck around for third, and debuting Gudahi (Aragorn (IRE) - Grands Jetes by Nureyev) passed a bunch late for fourth. Father Hughes ended up 8th after his early involvement.
